The need to provide a rural transport service in and around Tang was highlighted in a needs survey conducted in the area in 1999, where many members of the community felt the transport services available to the community were inadequate, particularly for the young and the elderly.
As per their Area Development Plan 2001 - 2006, Tang MCC hope to undertake a comprehensive road survey of the area to identify prblem areas and to highlight issues of road safety, which are of concern to the entire community.
In late February 2003, a comprehensive survey of the Tang Community was undertaken by the Tang MCC in co-operation with Penn State University, USA, to identify the areas/issues of concern to the community.

Following a visit in November 2003 by Westmeath Community Development, we had the first visit of the Finnish Transnational Group in April 2004 consisting of a group of 68 representing the 8 partner villages of the Oulu region in Finland.
Westmeath Community Development LTD was able to fund these two projects under the Leader+ Programme as a transnational Co-operation.
