Tanga is a region situated in the northern coastal part of Tanzania near the boarder with Kenya.
Tanga is a very fertile region were most of the land comprises of red clay soils and abundance of water.
The region today is known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as tea, cardamom, and cocoa in the higher areas and citrus fruits, bananas, coconut in the lower the coastal areas.

Dynamite fishing along the Tanga Coastal line has reportedly resumed with a vigor that is threatening to destroy the 10-year achievements made by the Ireland-supported Tanga Coastal Zone Conservation and Development Program (TCZCDP).
Last year, Kigombe, a coastal village on the shores of the Indian Ocean, in Muheza District, Tanga Region, became a center of international focus when the Coelacanth, a fossil fish that was thought to have disappeared from earth centuries ago was sighted and caught by fishermen.
The success of the operation led to an agreement between the Tanga Regional Government, which runs the TCZCDP and the Navy to conduct joint patrols with the programme and project villages to control destructive fishing practices, especially dynamite fishing.

The first guinea pig was an AIDS patient called Mohammed at a hospital in the small town of Pangani, whose condition improved markedly after taking the traditional medicines and is still alive, Scheinman said.
The non-governmental group running the programme, the Tanga AIDS Working Group, buys the treatments from traditional healers for 1.5 dollars for each patient's supply and then administers them in state hospitals and at AIDS sufferers' homes.

A weeklong investigation carried out by The Guardian in Tanga revealed inherent misunderstanding within the leadership ranks of TCP as some officials have ended up losing their jobs after being fired for questioning the legality of wanton logging taking place in some parts of the region.
But THA Tanga Port Manager Iddi Mkwata denied that his juniors were involved in the illegal export of logs through the port.
