History of the tank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The tank was developed by the British in World War I as a solution to the stalemate trench warfare had brought to the western front.
While the British took the lead in tank development, the French were not far behind and fielded their first tanks, the Schneider CA and St Chamond, in 1917.
The early tanks of Nazi Germany were technologically inferior to many of their opponents' tanks in the areas of armour and firepower.

Tank Girl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tank Girl was a 1990s English comic strip and the name of the leading character.
Tank Girl goes on a quest to recover a young girl (possibly her adopted daughter) and seek vengeance against those who killed her boyfriend.
Tank Girl, as well as Sub and Jet Girl, are influenced heavily by the characters of Jaime Hernandez's Love and Rockets, but the basis of the character apparently lies in a loud-mouthed Dutch punk girl selling bootleg 2000AD t-shirts in Camden Market in the middle of the 80s.

 T-54/55 Medium Tank History
Older versions of the tank were equipped with a metal track held together by special metal pins which were not secured on their outer end.
The last major conflicts that the T-54/55 tanks were used in was the 1991 Gulf War in Iraqi service, in the 2001 Afghanistan campaign on the side of the Taliban, and in the 2003 Iraq war.
Another advantage of the T-54/55 tanks were in their powerful 100mm cannon which proved to be a threat to tanks around the world for the next several decades.

Tank History - World War I
The tank was originally designed as a special weapon to solve an unusual tactical situation, the stalemate of the trenches.
This was the internal combustion engine, which had made possible the development of the tank and eventually would lead to the mechanized forces that were to assume the old roles of horse cavalry and to loosen the grip of the machine gun on the battlefield.
This third tank to be mass-produced during 1918 was powered by two Ford Model T, 4-cylinder engines, armed with a.30-caliber machine gun, and had a maximum speed of 8 miles per hour.

One is for individuals who are satisfied with and thoroughly tied into modal Western concepts about the relationship between the individual and the external world: that is, for whom the external world is the only reality, and for whom the internal world of imagery and fantasy is perceived as something unreal.

History of the 81st Tank Battalion
A great amount of time was devoted to practical work in the field, in the employment of the individiual tank, tanks sections and tank platoons, with the view of developing procedures that would reduce the enemy positions in the shortest possible time with the lowest possible loss of friendly troops.
Most of these new tanks were equipped with steel tracks and, as the Tennessee Highway Department would not permit the operation of the steel tracked tanks on their roads, it was necessary to change over to rubber tracks before the tanks could be moved to the bivouac area.
The tanks were to lead the attack, with very close infantry support, spraying the hedges with machine gun fire and firing their tank cannons into the fence corners and other likely anti-tank or mortar positions.

Hanford Watch -- History of Hanford Tank Waste Classification
The District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that ERDA construction of 22 nuclear waste storage tanks was not subject to the licensing jurisdiction of the NRC but that it was a major federal action requiring the preparation of a project-specific environmental impact statement (EIS).
Also, it appears that the Hanford 'tank wastes,' which from the information presented in the draft EIS would have been regarded as HLW when the Energy Reorganization Act was passed, remain HLW for purposes of determining whether or not NRC has such jurisdiction.
If the Hanford tank waste is not managed using a program comparable to the technical basis analyzed in the reference letter[20], the waste classification must be revisited by DOE.

Dr Porsche believed that problems with bridges could be overcome if tanks were equipped to wade through rivers but he was also keen to test many other concepts in his new design.
The electric motors, in their turn, produced power to drive the tank and steering was achieved by varying the speed of each motor through a rheostat.
At first no thought was given to the type of gun required for the new Porsche tank but in February 1941 Krupp put forward the idea of using their 88mm L/56 weapon.

The main argument was that the Tank Destroyer Force had not accomplished the mission of massing to defeat the German panzers, except at the Battle of El Guettar, Tunisia when the 899th TD Bn joined the 601St TD Bn and stopped Gen Rommel’s 10th Panzer Division.

The complicated history of Prague's Tank No. 23 - 08-05-2005 - Radio Prague
It was because a huge Soviet tank, a memorial to the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945, used to stand there on a 5-metre pedestal, its barrel menacingly pointing at a tram stop.
To end the dispute, the tank was finally taken away, much to the relief of the local authorities - partly because the tank itself was a historical nonsense.
Opinions on the return of the tank may differ but one thing is certain: the champions of its restoration did not make it for this year's 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The layout of the first tanks consisted of the front compartment with the driver, a fighting compartment with the turret and gun, and the engine compartment with the engine and fuel.
Thus the tank needed to have a large enough turret ring diameter to be able to absorb the recoil of the main gun, store ammunition, and hopefully enough room to allow fitting a larger weapon at a later time.
Early tanks had bolted on armor which could be dangerous if a shell struck the head of the bolt as the inside part could break off and fly around the inside of the vehicle and possibly injure the crew.

A rambling cultural history of the tank, this book covers a lot of ground, both figuratively and literally, from the social symbolism of the tank in the labor politics of post WWI Britain to the power politics of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank.
Instead this is a cultural history, and that (apparently) gives the author leeway to do what he will with the tanks themselves, stretching things very far in his quest to find their place in history.
Tanks were viewed as almost the equivalent of steeds during the Desert War of 1940-43; we see nothing of this, very little, in fact, of how the tankers view their vehicles in any sense.

The L.3 tanks were employed on various battlefronts : Greece, Albania, some early North African campaigns but, as they proved to be a real death trap in case of fighting with the more heavy and modern British tanks, they were withdrawn at the end of 1941.
They were used as medium tanks, a task far beyond their capacities (due to their modest armor, light and narrow traverse gunnery, small road wheels and narrow tracks), during the early fightings in Lybia and had no chance against the British Matilda and Valentine.
These tanks ("The" WWII Italian tanks) were widely used in North Africa and deserved enemy's respect (the British and Australian often employed captured examples).
