As for the origins of Tano, in ancient times it belonged to Naha county but in the beginning of the Kamakura period (1185-1333) Hokkyo Takada arrived in Mt. Takada, worked on the Nahari River's flood control, and reportedly opened up the Tano county farmland.
From the middle period on capitalism came to the fore, and the Tano group of five, which along with the clan purveyor to the government was also known as the group of seven, developed the resources of the deep mountain forests and acquired wealth and power.
After the Meiji Restoration a new district began and in 1888 Tano village was inaugurated according to town and village system law.

One of the things that marks them as Kochi people, and still gives me fits, is the local dialect.
