The first time I’ve heard about a trip to Tao Klarjeti was from my friend Gio Gelovani back in 1997 during my graduate studies in NYC.
Since then TAO KLARJETI became my number one objective.
It is said to be Russian garrison when Turks encircled it had under siege in XIX century.

It is worth to mention that the Turkish scientists have been studying the edifices in Tao - Klarjeti for ten years.
The studies resulted in finding out several fortresses in Tao - Klarjeti about which there were no data in the existing scientific records.
It should be noted that this is the first time the authorities of Turkey have financed work conducted by local scientists to study Georgian edifices in Turkey.
