Tap (valve) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A tap is a valve for controlling the release of a liquid or gas.
Although a gas tap may be a valve that releases any gas, the word is most commonly used to refer to taps that control the flow of fuel gas (natural gas or, historically, coal gas, syngas, etc.) in the home (for gas fires or other appliances) or in laboratories (for Bunsen burners).
At intermediate flow settings the pressure at the valve restriction drops nearly to zero from the venturi effect; in water taps, this causes the water to boil momentarily at room temperature as it passes through the restriction.

Mechanical actuator for dispensing tap - Patent 5102017
Valve element 44 is connected to the top interior of resilient diaphragm 42 so that when the top of said resilient diaphragm 42 is reflected downward, valve element 44 is caused to move away from its seat.
Tap actuator embodiment 130 is comprised of a fixed pivot or hinge 131, a first or upper lever 132, a pair of second or lower levers 139, a pair of horizontally aligned moveable or floating hinges 133, a link 134, and a moveable pivot 135.
Unlike the dispensing tap embodiments disclosed earlier herein, the discharge opening 645 of tap 640 is generally perpendicular to the axis of valve element 644.

Line tap valve - Patent 4018246
A line tap valve as defined in claim 6 wherein the outer end portion of said annular bushing is externally chamfered to define a frusto-conical outer wall portion against which said annular ring portion is swadged upon the screwing of said valve cap in place upon said body member.
It is another object of this invention to provide a line tap valve of the character described including means controlled by the tightening of a screw-on valve cap upon the valve body for permanently attaching the piercing needle mechansim after the valve body has been soldered or brazed to the line to be tapped.
The valve cap 12 is preferably of hexagonal cross-sectional shape to facilitate screwing and unscrewing in place with an open-end wrench or similar tool, and is formed with coaxial, internal threads 47 for screw-thread reception upon the externally-threaded portion 14 of the valve body member 11.

General Maintenance - Lambretta Fuel Tap
The last step before the fuel valve removal is to remove the linkage to the exterior frame handle by removing one of the cotter pins in the linkage.
The valve contains a brass nut which pulls the tank and valve together when tightened (the tap portion is reverse threaded).
If the valve is truly blocked, try removing the rotating part connected to the linkage to get access to the rubber gasket and fuel passageways.

The next step is to release the tap valve, use a correct sized spanner above the joint and firmly hold the tap spout to prevent the body of the tap turning on the basin or sink - if the tap does move, the connection under the basin/sink may be loosened causing a leak.
Before replacing the tap valve check to make sure that the tap seat is not undamaged, if it is damaged, repair it before replacing the valve.

A dripping tap cannot always be cured by just fitting a new washer, sometimes the valve seat has become damaged.
The valve seat is what the washer closes onto when the tap is closed.

The next step is to release the valve, but first make sure the tap is wedged firmly in position (if it moves while undoing a tight valve nut, it may loosen the water connection underneath) and place a cloth over the tap to avoid scratching the metal.
The operation of the tap handle, opens or closes the washer against the seat, which is a small shelf just inside the body of the tap.

On Tap Magazine - Winter 2004
According to AWWA, “Each valve should be operated through a full cycle and returned to it’s normal position on a schedule that is designed to prevent a buildup of tuberculation [rust formation in pipes as a result of corrosion] or other deposits that could render the valve inoperable or prevent a tight shutoff.
The interval of time between operations of valves in critical locations or valves subjected to severe operating conditions should be shorter than for other less important installations, but can be whatever time period is found to be satisfactory based on local experience.
This is usually the result of something happening inside the valve as it nears the closed position: the worst tuberculation in the valve happens; the discs spread, requiring higher torque (rotational force) to pull them back together; or there is some pressure on the gate from the water pressure on either side of the gate.

 NC30/NC35 Fuel Tap Vacuum Bypass
The basic procedure is to disassemble the fuel tap, disconnect the small rubber diaphragm from the large rubber diaphragm and aluminum piece, disconnect the plastic piece from the large diaphragm, connect the plastic piece to the small diaphragm and re-assemble it, discarding the spring and large rubber diaphragm (including the little aluminum piece).
The fuel tap is made up of two plates (a middle plate, and an outer plate) and the actual tap or valve.
Regardless, the fuel tap should not be left in the open position when the bike is not in use (close the valve at the end of a race day).

This is a single, more complex, valve whose handle moves up and down to control the amount of water flow and from side to side to control the temperature of the water (achieved by mixing the hot and cold water together).
Although a gas tap may be a valve that releases any gas, the word is most commonly used to refer to taps that control the flow of natural gas in the home (for gas fires) or in school science laboratories (for Bunsen burners).
This is called a "globe valve" in engineering and, while it gives a leak-proof seal and good fine adjustment of flow, the tortuous S-shaped path the water is forced to follow offers a significant obstruction to the flow.

A diverter valve diverts some of the vehicle's hydraulic fluid from the main system into a separate line to power an auxiliary system, such as a cart lifter.
In the past, even the best diverter valves would either reduce the flow of the system's hydraulic fluid to the point where the packer panel would slow down, or it would lower the hydraulic pressure, making it impossible for the bodies to pack as much refuse per load as they were designed to.
Any time hydraulic fluid is pushed through a valve or fitting, the system pressure drops and energy is dissipated in the form of heat - the archenemy of hydraulic systems.

alve insertion is a method of inserting a specialty gate or ball valve directly into an existing main, while the existing pipeline is under working pressure, without interruption of flow or service.
alve insertion employs a specialty pressure contained tapping/inserting machine, a full-port inserting valve and a pressure-contained insertion sleeve that is attached (bolted) to the existing pressurized pipeline.
Valve insertions can be performed on cast iron, ductile iron, limited transite/ACP, and limited concrete cylinder pipe.

In the TAP procedure, clinicians utilized the Cribier-Edwards percutaneous heart valve technology, which integrates a balloon-expandable stent with an aortic replacement tissue heart valve.
The balloon-mounted valve was compressed to the approximate diameter of a pencil, then inserted through a small incision between the ribs and delivered through the bottom apex of the heart, where it was deployed inside of the native valve.
While traditional aortic valve replacement surgery requires opening the patient's chest, stopping their heart, and managing their circulation on cardiopulmonary bypass for at least an hour, the first TAP procedure was completed on a beating heart less than 30 minutes after the surgical mini-incision was made.
