Capiz is (unfairly) rumored to have a number of aswang and covens of witches.
It is said that in Capiz in 1570, the Datu Bankaya’s wife of the Aklan district gave birth to twin daughters.
Capiz, which was part of Aklan in pre-Spanish times, was one of the early settlements of the Malayas, centuries before the coming of the Spaniards to the Philippines.

Capiz was created into a separate ‘encomienda’ and later was organized into a politico-military province in 1716, embracing the neighboring island of Romblon, Tablas, and Sibuyan.
In 1746, Capiz was made the seat of the politico-military government although it was still ecclesiastically controlled by the Bishopric of Cebu.
Capiz shell products, admired for their beauty and transluscent quality, are in such great demand abroad that sometimes local exporters can hardly supply the needs of the market.

Capiz, shaped like an open palm, is bound by the Sibuyan Sea on the northeast, the province of AkIan on the West and the province of Iloilo on the south.
Negros Occidental is bound on the north by the Visayan Sea, on the south by Sulu Sea and on the east by the Tanon Strait and Negros Oriental, its sister province.

Launched in the province in 2005, the project, which is part of the government rural energization program, was initially introduced in some 400 homes in 21 barangays of Tapaz that are out of reach of the power grid of the electric cooperative.

ILOILO CITY -- An Army sergeant was killed and another soldier injured when government troops clashed on Wednesday with suspected New People's Army rebels in a hinterland village in Tapaz town, Capiz province.
A bullet grazed the right cheek of Private First Class Randy Lanag who was treated at a clinic in Tapaz town proper.
More soldiers under the 12th IB were sent to pursue the rebels who withdrew to the mountainous area of Tapaz while firing at the soldiers.
