The tapestry design is formed by the weft, different coloured strands of yarn, such as wool or silk, that are woven through the warp until it is entirely covered.
Tapestries are either woven with the warp stretched on a vertical loom, known as high-warp tapestry weaving, or horizontally on a low-warp loom.
Ten curious heads were glued to the tapestry and became pale with fury; for their ears, closely applied to the door, did not lose a syllable of what he said, while their mouths repeated as he went on, the insulting expressions of the captain to all the people in the antechamber.

 Carole King: Tapestry
A tapestry may hang in dusty tatters, ravaged and scarred by the passing of time, evidencing only a flawed shadow of its former glory; it can also maintain its beauty and charisma, deserving its ever growing reputation as an object of wonder, a symbol of glorious days gone by.
Held aloft today, Tapestry prevails as a significant collection of colorfully memorable moments diminished to a slight degree by a dated background of three or four unexceptional tunes, their former power eroded by the passing of the years.
Tapestry was not an entirely original release, in that it reprised some material already familiar to most of its audience.

It was the first great adult pop album: complicated, subtle, built on her subdued piano parts, lyrically concerned with the way people who've been living for a while relate to each other.
This is an album that stayed on the Billboard chart for almost six years straight.) It'd make a great fairy tale if "Tapestry" had sprung full-blown as her first record after a decade's apprenticeship as a songwriter, spurred by her move to the West Coast, but that's just not the case.
What her later, weaker solo albums miss most is that connection of speaker to listener: her exhortation to "Believe in Humanity" is universal where it could be personal, and mushy because of it.

Milkwood Tapestry was the New York duo of Joseph Ransohoff and Roland Antonelli.
This legendary album is all over the place with its folksy baroque ballads, heavy progressive rock sounds and wild psychedelic fuzz songs.
Although the Milkwood Tapestry was originally billed as a folk-rock duo, the band was so much more than that and now, over thirty years after its original release, fans will finally be able to discover what made the band so sought after and praised in collectors circles.

The album closes with Skyline Pigeon, which may have seemed pretentious at the time, but in hindsight is just one more reason why Elton John has been one of the most highly regarded artists of the past forty years, no matter how troubled or quirky he may be.
Both albums listed are from late 1970s stalwarts, and both will raise the eyebrows of their ardent fans, who will argue that earlier releases were far better.
The demise of the album was brought about by a few things, the first being a number of mediocre efforts from established acts.

On this album from 1996, the Miller brothers are augmented by Thomas Fisk on guitar, mandolin and mandola; Mich Howell on bass, and Paul Stipetic on drums.
The Priests are at their best when they pull all the brakes and turn the album into a raving party.
From this the title of the album is taken: "Quiet angel cover me in your own rich life´s tapestry." The song is a showcase for Fisk´s guitar playing, and he trades solos with Glenn Miller´s accordion apart from providing a lot of nice background licks.

Although ostensibly a duo, Milkwood Tapestry's sole album is not, by any means, strictly or merely a folkie's record, although folk music certainly instructs its sound, particularly the British Isles strain with its flourishes of medieval instrumentation and Baroque lyricism.
The original album also has its fair share of dotty acoustic numbers, and as fine as many of them are, they occasionally teeter over the cliff separating the mountain of prettiness from the valley of cute.
In fact, at least half the original album is quite hard-hitting, even quite-yet-psychedelic, with sharp fuzz guitar solos, acidic ebbs and flows, dark turns of melody, and wildly manic vocals from Ransohoff.

 Carole King - Tapestry
Pacific rock, to be sure, but with a sharpness worthy of a Brooklyn girl -- if there's a truer song about breaking up than "It's Too Late," the world (or at least AM radio) isn't ready for it.
Not that lyrics are the point on an album whose title cut compares life to a you-know-what -- the point is a woman singing.
For a decade, King wrote pop songs with her then-husband, Gerry Goffin: hits such as Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion" (Eva Boyd was the couple's baby-sitter) and the Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday." Then King's friend James Taylor encouraged her to sing her own tunes.

Even the half-lit album cover of a barefoot Carole with her cat sitting by a window somewhat evokes this.
It was during this "void" in 1970/71 that songwriters of the 50's and 60's seem to emerge as the hitmakers of the day with songs that often told stories; people such as Neil Sedaka, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Carole King.
The simplicity of the recordings on this album by using just drums, piano and bass is very effective and what give the album it's weight in gold as much as Carole King's brilliant songwriting.

Writer is the most underrated of all of Carole King's original albums, in that it was completely ignored when it came out in 1971 and didn't really start to sell until Tapestry whetted everyone's appetite for her work.
