Tapeworm is the musical project masterminded by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Maynard James Keenan, vocalist for the Los Angeles based heavy prog metal bands, Tool and A Perfect Circle.
MTV news is reporting that the band, which also includes NIN guitarist Danny Lohner and bassist/drummer/keyboardist Atticus Ross of the group 12 Rounds is in an Atlanta recording studio recording their debut album that will be released on Reznor’s label, Nothing Records.
In 1999 Reznor was upset at Keenan for performing a Tapeworm song called “Vacant” with A Perfect Circle, but those fences have long since been mended and the duo are excited about the forthcoming album.

There was the ill-fated Tapeworm Project with Tool frontman Maynard Keenan that was eventually scrapped after about two years in the works (I wonder if any of the songs on With Teeth are Tapeworm Project leftovers?...Hmm....).
It is actually the "band" tracks that seem a bit monotonous when compared to the other songs.
Evidently, Trent likes this new band line-up so much, that there is talk of a new album being released sooner than expected, although in NIN terms, "soon" could mean "only two or three years".

I've also heard roumors of a band called Tapeworm, that is composed of Tool members, NIN members, and the likes.
Tapeworm is dead, and will probably never be alive again.

Since then, Tapeworm has gone though several reconfigurations as the former NIN sidemen left to work on other projects and various musicians were brought in for guest recordings.
The bottom line is that no rumors about the release of Tapeworm should be believed unless they are accompanied by an official announcement by Nothing Records.

Centered at Nothing's New Orleans studio, Tapeworm is essentially a collaborative studio project involving several guest singers and musicians, one of whom is Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan, who recorded the vocal track for the song "Vacant" in 1999.
Reznor is also putting the finishing touches on a NIN DVD chronicling the band's 1999-2000 tour, which was originally scheduled for release last November (see "Nine Inch Nails To Release Remix LP, Live DVD").

As far as Tapeworm and Trent Reznor goes, I've never been too big on NIN but as long as MJK has some creative control, than its guarenteed to not be another supergroup letdown.
