Pen Computing Magazine: Tapwave Zodiac review
Tapwave's Zodiac, along with Nintendo's GameBoy Advance, Nokia's N-Gage, and Sony's forthcoming PlayStation Portable, are all positioned to go after the upscale game device market.
In the case of the Zodiac, the audience is clearly not just teenage boys, but the teenage boy in people of all ages who have US$300-$400 to spend on a whim.
Tapwave has over 1,000 registered developers working on games for the Zodiac, so there will be no shortage of killer titles for the platform -- and don't forget the more than 1,400 existing games for the Palm that you can play now.

After using the sync/charge cable that came included with the Tapwave for over a month, I was growing tired of propping my Zod on the lower edge of my computer keyboard while working.
After further digging, I came to the conclusion that Tapwave had somehow neglected to include the sync/charge cable that was pictured in the item's description...
I figured I would email Tapwave support and ask for my cable to be sent later, but in the meantime I began to hook the cable I already owned to the new cradle.

The ethos of the PDA is easy to see in the Zodiac, as the 480 x 320-pixel display dominates the handheld, nearly triple the size of N-Gage QD's screen and double the size of both panels on the Nintendo DS.
Taking up nearly half the space on the Zodiac, the large screen is easy on the eyes, and the ample visuals are the most appealing aspect over other portable units.

Tapwave was founded in May of 2001 by several senior members of the Palm team, eager to create a device that would encompass all the useful applications available in personal data assistants, without compromising its ability to serve as a mobile entertainment platform, serving up games, music and video with equal aplomb.
Despite its small size and minimal weight, the Zodiac is comfortable to hold, and features a number of buttons beyond the joystick: two shoulder buttons; four action buttons on the right; a home, power and special button on the left; and a Bluetooth button at the top.
Of course, the Zodiac supports Bluetooth connectivity, and is expandable both using wireless devices and hardware: the device has two slots for MultiMediaCards, the second of which can be used for SDIO cards.

The Zodiac also sports other features that make other handheld manufacturers squirm, such as dual expansion slots, eight playable control buttons, 32 to 128MB of internal memory, a pair of rechargeable lithium batteries, built-in vibration feedback, Bluetooth wireless connectivity along with a solid launch library of games.
This means that you can shut the Zodiac down mid-game and later pick up right where you left off, whereas in olden days this would reset the system and you'd lose all unsaved progress.
Tapwave has also made certain that a variety of titles would be available at the time of their system's launch.
