Moldova's parliamentarians claimed that Taraclia was considered too small to be financially autonomous and administratively efficient.
Taraclia, a southern county mostly populated by a Bulgarian minority, is to be incorporated into one of the eight new counties.
Vodenski retorted that the "problem of human rights" was hardly "an internal issue." On October 9, the Taraclia administrative body formally requested parliament to keep the county a distinct territorial-administrative unit.

Regional government leaders in Taraclia in southern Moldova say they are determined to hold a referendum to extend local autonomy, in spite of a ruling by the country's Supreme Court that it would be illegal.
Under Moldova's recently-enacted county division, the Taraclia region -- where the majority of the population are ethnic Bulgarians -- is due to be absorbed into a new county, centred on Cahul.
In October the Bulgarian ambassador sparked a diplomatic row when he said that ethnic Bulgarians should resist any move by the Moldovan authorities to limit their powers of self-government.

And if you’ve got 5 minutes of business in Taraclia, you’ve got 4 hours to kill in a town where there ain’t 5 minutes of stuff to do; if you don’t get everything done by the time the bus leaves at 1 pm, you are again out of luck.
I had one of my usual incomprehensible and inexplicable post office experiences in Taraclia, did some other errands, and headed back to the bus at 12:30 to get a seat for the 90 minute ride home.

The vote reversed the results of the territorial-administrative reform begun in January, which had eliminated Taraclia’s district status and merged it into a region where Bulgarians would no longer constitute a majority.
Voters in the Taraclia district approved a referendum in January not to be included in the larger district, with 88% of eligible voters participating and 92% voting in favor of the referendum.

Frosts early this month affected 33 hectares of apricot orchards and nine hectares of cherry orchards in the district of Taraclia and in the Gagauzia autonomy.
Valeriu Cebotari, deputy director of the general fruit and vegetable department in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, said that frosts affected orchards in the villages of Corten, Tvardita and Albota de Jos in Taraclia district, as well as in the Gagauzian village of Cazaclia.
According to Cebotari, a commission of the Agriculture Ministry has visited the affected zones and suggested the local administration to exempt the farms hit by frosts from the land tax.
