  Mures County Council
The city is located in the Târnave plateau, on the middle course of the Târnava Mica River, from the river meadow to the right side of the valley.
Since vineyards covered the majority of the cultivated land, it came to be known as the " vine country" - Weinland.
For a few centuries until the half of the XX century, the city proved to be of a great regional interest, becoming even the capital of a shire (Târnava shire), or a county capital (Târnava Mica County), alternating this attribute with Cetatea de Balta or with Blaj.

  Praid Salt Mine
This "pasture" is crossed bz the Târnava Mica river and its affluents.
The longest affluent mare, 22 km long, of the Târnava Mica is the Corund spring which flows into Târnava Mica under the Harom Hill.
Besides the "young" Praid, surrounded by mountain springs, steep rocks and beautiful forests, there is the memory of the "old" Praid, remembered to be the home of the civil population, covering the "Rapsonné" Citadel.

 Tarnava - Definition, explanation
It is formed by the confluence of the rivers Târnava Mare (Big Târnava) and Târnava Mica (Small Târnava) in the city Blaj.
The source of the Târnava Mica (Hungarian: Kis-Küküllő, German: Kleine Kokel) is also in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, in the Romanian county Harghita.
The cities Sovata and Târnăveni; lie on the river Târnava Mica.

 People and Pollutiion of Copsa Mica
Pollution in Copsa Mica was almost entirely caused by two factories; Carbosin produced carbon fl for dies and tires from 1936 until 1993, and SOMETRA is a non-ferrous metallurgical smelter that is still operational.
Copsa Mica had the misfortune of being designated as one of these locations, in spite of the fact that the orographical and meteorological positioning of Copsa Mica is not favorable for polluting industries.
In Copsa Mica, the carbon fl plant Carbosin was shut down in 1993, and the lead and zinc smelting factory, SOMETRA, was opened to international industrial safety experts from the U.N., who upgraded some of the equipment, installed new filters, brought long-needed spare parts, and set up emissions monitors.

In the central part are situated the volcanic chains of the mountains Gurghiu (with the top Prisca, 1777 m), Central Harghita Mountains (with the top Harghita Madaras, 1801 m) and South Harghita Mountains (with the top Cucu, 1558 m).
The hydrographic network consists in three main basins: Mures, towards west (with Târnava Mare and Târnava Mica), Olt towards South (with Homorodul Mare and Homorodul Mic) and Bistrita and Trotus towards east.
In the county there is the only lake of the country, which has volcanic origin, St. Anne's Lake, placed in the picturesque area of the volcanic crater Ciomatu with a height of 950 m.

 Country Report Romania - Mapping
According to the analyses and data found in County Reports on the State of the Environment (2000), there are critical areas from an atmospheric, soil, surface and underground water pollution point of view in the Tisa Basin.
Because of chemical pollution resulting from the metallurgic industry, three critical areas are identified (Zlatna, Baia Mare, Copsa Mica), and resulting from the chemical industry, the area Tg.
Mures is identified, where the alert and intervention thresholds for heavy metals, especially copper, lead, zinc and cadmium lead to pollution indicators similar to that presented in critical areas with atmospheric pollution.
