Tarsem, as you'll find on the director's commentary and in the deleted scenes, is a fountain of film references.
Even the featurette is brilliant, because while everyone is waxing Tarsem's ass in the interviews, we see footage of Tarsem directing the camera and frames and putting actors on their marks or showing them how to move so that it'll be cooler looking.
But Tarsem needs to learn the non-visual side of his craft, and go work with actors in a theater, where he can't be so reliant on camera set-ups.

Tarsem effectively cuts between both the real and imaginary world in such an effective manner that both become surreal.
I have a feeling Tarsem and screenwriter Mark Protosevich had something else up their sleeves for a conclusion, because the ending did not feel in line with the rest of the film.

Tarsem uses saturated live colors to contrast between good and evil, and his stylized direction is an aesthetic success.

You may remember Tarsem from the debacle known as, THE CELL - and Moriarty's famously "racist" tagging of him as "Tarzan".
Tarsem Singh proves that he's much better than the material he had to work with in The Cell (2000), with a clearly much more personal project (he wrote and produced, as well as directing) called The Fall.
I truly hope that The Fall enjoys the kind of success that will open the door for Tarsem Singh to work more on his own terms, and not have to do things like the Westworld remake that appears to be his next feature.
