Tartiflette is a (Click link for more info and facts about Frenchdish) French dish from the (Head of soft crinkly leaves) Savoy region.
It is not, however, a traditional dish and was, in fact, invented and launched only in the (The decade from 1980 to 1989) 1980s by the Reblochon trade union in an attempt to increase sales of the cheese.

Historically, the tartiflette originates in the valley of Aravis, home of the Reblochoncheese.
However, it is not a traditional dish and was in fact invented and launched only in the 1980s by the Trade union of the reblochon in order to increase sales of the cheese.
Different valleys in the region have different methods of producing Tartiflette and there may even be one recipe per village.

Le nom tartiflette dérive du nom de la pomme de terre en savoyard, tartiflâ.
Aujourd'hui il existe au moins une recette de tartiflette par vallée, probablement même une par village, sans compter les chefs qui l'adaptent pour notre plus grand plaisir.
Tartiflette is a classic recipe though, and very widely known in France, if not elsewhere -- surprisingly we discovered it from a woman who cooks it on the spot at Lezignan market and serves it as a takeaway.
