The task force has been meeting and touring the district facilities (from 35 to 50 years old) since January to recommend improvements and renovations that will, most likely, result in a bond referendum that would be put to voters as early as February 2006.
The task force, which comprises community members and staff and is a separate entity from District 16, estimates the need for repairs, renovation and new construction for the district’s buildings at about $90 million.
A $30 million bond referendum was passed 10 years ago, but the task force at that time cut what it determined as $60 million of deferred maintenance needs in half to $30 million to increase chances of passage.
