Sir Tasker Watkins VC GBE PC (born November 18, 1918), is a Welsh recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
He is a former High Court judge, and was President of the Welsh Rugby Union from 1993 to 2004.
Tasker Watkins was born in the small town of Nelson, Glamorgan, and educated at Pontypridd Grammar School.

Sir Tasker was Leader of the Wales and Chester Circuit from 1970-71 and served as Judge of the High Court of Justice, Family Division, between 1971 and 1974 and of the Queen's Bench Division from 1974 until 1980.
Sir Tasker, who had been Counsel (as deputy to the Attorney-General) into the inquiry into the Aberfan disaster of 1966, chaired the Mental Health Review Tribunal, Wales Region, between 1960 and 1971 and was also chairman of the Judicial Studies Board during 1979 and 1980.
Appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Glamorgan in 1956, Sir Tasker became an Honorary Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Wales in 1979 and of Glamorgan in 1996 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992.

Major Watkins decided to rejoin his battalion by passing around the flank of the enemy position through which he had advanced, but while passing through the cornfields once more, he was challenged by an enemy post at close range.
Tasker Watkins was born in Nelson and lived with his parents at Shingrig Road.
Tasker's father was a bombardier in the artillery of the 38th Welsh Kitchener's Army Division in WWI and shortly after the VC attack the hero son stood on the same spot where his father was wounded during the Great War.

Keith Rowlands is set to be named the new president of the Welsh Rugby Union.
The Western Mail reports that he comfortably beat rival David East in their showdown to succeed Sir Tasker Watkins for the figurehead post.
It is believed that former International Rugby Board chief executive Rowlands polled 112 votes, compared to the 64 of ex-WRU secretary East.

After home defence service, the 4th and 1/5th Territorial Army battalions served with the 53rd (Welsh) Division during the 1944/45 campaign in France and through North West Europe.
A Victoria Cross was gained by Lieutenant Tasker Watkins of 5th Battalion, The Welch Regiment near Bafour, whilst fighting for Falaise in Normandy in August 1944.
Over 1,100 Officers and Men gave their lives during the conflict.
