Taste is based upon a certain set of assumptions about what is good or bad in the world.
This is also a function of taste tribes – but unlike them, the coolhunter is not neotenic for the sheer love of it.
Taste tribes may turn out to be the best way to filter out the bad media and let in the good – to turn up the signal and wipe out the noise, as Peter Gabriel says on his most recent album.

 TASTE OF SHOTGUN
It wasn’t all plain sailing either for the band, the drummers cymbal refused to stay upright, and a false start forced them to have another go at one track, but that coolness again presided and it didn’t seem to be that much of a problem.
Not only do the band seem to be a bottomless pit when it comes to recording, but they should really consider actually moving into the recording studio and paying their council tax.
Taste of Shotgun are a band who wear their influences firmly on their collective sleeve, and see no shame in that.

This year was sponsored heavily by local station WXRT, and the artists selected to perform included The Lemonheads, Squeeze, Roger McGuinn, The Band, the subdudes, and Carlos Santana.
McGuinn took the stage with backing band The Headlights and plowed through a 14-song set, mixing classics from The Byrds and solo tunes.

 Rory Gallagher
Taste were indeed 'taste', and an acquired one: one of the last great blues-rock bands, and certainly the last 'purist' blues-rock band with any significant importance (unless you count The Doobie Brothers, of course).
Now the big rub lies in the fact that, while Taste were a really cookin' live band, they also managed to get most of that gritty, sloppy live sound on their studio albums (Taste, for instance, has at max one rhythm guitar overdub on a couple of tracks), which kinda renders this live experience superfluous.
After all, Taste are not the Who or Cream: their bass player is competent, but not as flashy or steady, and Rory just couldn't take off the ground completely on the fast numbers.

Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) was an Irish blues/rock guitarist whose career took off in the 1960s with the legendary Taste (band)Taste, featuring his guitar/ and vocals, the jazz-tinged drumming of John Wilson and intricate bass playing of Richard McCracken.
There was an earlier version of Taste whose recordings are still available and it's interesting to compare Rory's rudimentary guitar playing to the virtuosity that became evident fairly soon after in the later Taste.
This was the group who released two studio albums, ''Taste'' and ''On the Boards'', and made two live recordings showing the band at its incendiary best, ''Live at Montreux'' and ''Live at the Isle of Wight'', the latter appearing a long time after the band broke up, famously, at that same Isle of Wight festival.
