		Outside of the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg metropolitan areas, Pennsylvania is a relatively poorer state, especially in the northern areas and the Appalachian Mountains; only 22% of Pennsylvania places have per capita incomes higher than the national per capita income, and 11.0% of the population lives below the poverty line.
		There are sixty-seven counties located in Pennsylvania, three of which are in the 100 richest counties in the country.

		An Oklahoma-based Indian tribe's bid for 315 acres in Pennsylvania to operate a gambling facility will turn on how a federal court interprets the murky legal practices and record-keeping of 18th century land transactions.
		The Forks Township land was indeed granted to Tatamy in 1736 by Thomas Penn, proprietor of Colonial Pennsylvania, according to a document in state archives.
		Tatamy was living there in July 1742, when Moravian Bethlehem founder Count Ludwig von Zinzendorf described him as "farming in a small way on a grant of 300 acres given him by the Proprietaries agents in consideration of services he had rendered as interpreter and messenger of the Indians."

		Four teens, including three who were Tatamy volunteer firefighters, face up to 10 years in prison for their alleged involvement in a string of fires this summer in Northampton County.
		Kohuth said the incident is unfortunate because the "irresponsible actions" of the former firefighters may have "tarnished to some degree" the heroic reputation firefighters gained in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.
		Edward Frace, chief of the Tatamy Fire Co., said the fire broke out in the shed toward the rear of the property, which Northampton County records show is owned by William B. and Sharon S. Buss.
