Tate and Lyle gave the trading update ahead of the end of its financial year at the end of March and annual results June 2.
Analysts expect Tate and Lyle to make a pretax profit of around 240 million pounds in the year to March 31, up from 227 million pounds the year before.

LONDON — Tate and Lyle P.L.C. announced Wednesday that its subsidiary, A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co., has reached a $100-million settlement with customers as part of a federal antitrust civil suit regarding high fructose corn syrup.
By settling, Tate and Lyle became the last company to pay damages in a case in which the plaintiff class had sought damages of $1.6 billion for allegedly breaking certain antitrust laws during the period of 1988-95.
At the time of ADM’s settlement in mid-June, Tate and Lyle had said it would go to court in September to fight the allegations.
