This is St Ives, one of the most famous holiday towns in Cornwall - a jewel situated at the south-western tip of this island kingdom yet readily accessible by road, rail and air.
A mild climate, St Ives is warmed by the gulf stream and almost frost-free winters makes it possible to grow plants and shrubs normally native to semi-tropical countries hundreds of miles further south.

Tate St Ives is an art museum in St Ives, Cornwall, England, exhibiting work by modern British artists, including work of the St Ives School.
It was opened to the public in 1993 – the fifth museum to be opened by Tate after Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Liverpool and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden (also in St Ives and managed by Tate since 1980).

What a treat it must be for the volunteer coast watchers at St. Ives to serve their country and community in the midst of such beauty.
I’ve been told there is no spot in England that is more than 75 miles from the sea.
The citizens of St. Ives gave much support to the prestigious expansion of the Tate into their community, an important ratification of the town’s long tradition of being a Mecca for the arts.

Tate St Ives feels (and probably is) the smaller of the four Tates and we can now proudly claim to know all of them.
We were introduced to Artists from the St Ives School of Modernists and a complimentary Paul Feiler retrospective as well as new work from Richard Deacon.

The journey from almost anywhere to the Tate St Ives is not unlike a pilgrimage.
There is something minimalist and meditative about the text works, but the vigorous splashes, drips and swirls of the mud works suggest a religious fervour, and hit you with the force and drama of a huge altarpiece.
According to the Tate, these artists are linked by their status as "innovators in their particular field" and in the way they have "pushed the boundaries of what is possible in sculptural terms" - it sounds like the usual art-gallery puff, but the curators do seem to have some rationale in selecting such unlikely bedfellows.

It has been disclosed that Penwith Housing Association has very recently circulated residents of the older peoples flats close to the St Ives Tate with a letter informing them that their flats are riddled with asbestos.
Not seen the article yet, but it seems that the asbestos problem is with the block of flats on the Barnoon cemetary side of the St Ives Tate which were built a little later than the other small block whose residents also received the asbestos warning.
I'm sure the St Ives Tate management and the Cornwall "County" Council committee that Mr Biscoe chairs realised the error of their ways in the end.
