Taticius - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taticius was a Byzantine general during the reign of Alexius I Comnenus.
Taticius accompanied the Norman (under Guiscard's son Bohemund of Taranto, Bohemund's nephew Tancred, and Robert of Normandy) and Flemish (under Robert of Flanders) contingents.
In April of 1099 Taticius and the Norman mercenary Landulf were made admirals and placed in charge of a fleet sent from Constantinople to confront a Pisan fleet on its way to assist the Crusaders, which had been pillaging the coasts of the Empire.

In February, the Byzantine general and legate Taticius, who had remained with the crusaders as an advisor and a representative of Emperor Alexius I, suddenly left the crusader army.
According to Anna Comnena, who presumably spoke with Taticius personally, the crusaders refused to listen to his advice and Bohemund had informed him that the other leaders were planning to kill him, as they believed Alexius was secretly encouraging the Turks.
Knowing fully that Bohemund had designs on taking the city for himself, and that he had probably engineered Taticius' departure in order to facilitate this, Godfrey and Raymond did not give in to his flmail, but the minor knights and soldiers wanted to recognize his demands and he gained their sympathies.

In the beginning of the crusade the emperor, Alexius, had commissioned Taticius, along with rich and noble knights of his army, to conduct the Franks safely and to recover in fidelity the lands seized by the Turks.
Now, when Taticius heard that a Turkish army had struck our forces, he lamented the fact because he thought that all had been killed or had fallen into the hands of the pagans.
