The Polish Tatras are considerably a small part of the entire range and constitute only one-fifth of the entire range of Tatras, while the rest of the range is situated on the Slovakian side.
However, the Polish Tatras are blessed with some of the most spectacular views — for instance, the most beautiful nook of the High Tatras (one section of the Tatras) Dolina Rybiego Potoku, and the most scenic valley in the Western Tatras, Dolina Koscieliska, are both situated in the Polish section of the Tatras.
The Tatras draw over three million visitors through out the year and as expected, tourism is the largest industry of the area.

 Geomorphological hazards and risks in the High Tatra Mountains
Important palaeoclimatic changes  that went on in the High Tatra region in the Pliocene and the  Pleistocene were, together with the geological features of the  mountain vault surface and with the neotectonic activity, the  main factors enabling the evolution of high mountain  landforms.
Geomorphological analysis of the crest part  of the mountains showed that the development of the high rock  slopes on crystalline rocks was determined mainly by their  morphostructural position, in detail by the local arrangement  of tectonic discontinuities and by the extent of glacigenic  and cryogenic modellation in the Pleistocene (Photo 3).
The mountains as  a whole have preserved marked features of glacial relief, the  retreat of the ice and the transformation by postglacial  denudation of which are the latest stage of the High Tatra Mts  polygenetic development.

I'm going from Krakovia to the tatra mountains in Slovakia this summer, but it's seems to be a bit difficult to get direct trains from Krakovia to Poprad-Tatry, which is the main train station.
Travel between Poland and Slovakia in the mountains is a bit of a pain...
For High Tatras, which I think Poprad is located in (?), it's "vysokie tatry" or "wysokie tatry".

It is a fairly touristy resort in the Tatra mountains which border Poland and Slovakia.
The Tatra are a bit like the Alps - about 2,500m tall and dotted with chalets and cows with bells around their necks.

Stary Smokovec has very little to see, but the obvious attractions, the mountains, are very close.
There are many possible walks, but the most popular and one that I did, involves walking (or taking the funicular) up to Hrebienok, then across to Skalnate Pleso, where there is a lake and three sets of cable cars.
