Matti Vanhanen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vanhanen has a university education in political science, and is regarded as an expert on EU matters.
Vanhanen is known for personal abstinence from alcohol, saying that he doesn't like the taste of alcohol [2].
Vanhanen has said [1] that he is unenthusiastic about European co-operation, and that he is an "EU pragmatist", so he may be considered an eurosceptic especially when compared to his EU-enthusiast precedessor Paavo Lipponen.

 Chronology of Modern Democracy: Vanhanen
Tatu Vanhanen's The Emergence of Democracy: A comparative study of 119 states, 1850-1979 (Helsinki, 1984), was in his own words "an attempt to explain why the process of democratization started in the last century and why it has not extended equally to all countries and turned them into democracies." (p.
Vanhanen's work, as he pointed out himself, is just one of many efforts to measure democracy and its relationship to social and economic preconditions.
For each decade beginning in 1850, Vanhanen calculated ID numbers for each independent country existing in 1984 (thus excluding Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia) with a population of over 1 million people (thus excluding Iceland among other states), and using them determined whether they were democracies during that decade.

 The Anatomy of Ethnic Conflict
Tatu Vanhanen of the University of Helsinki is a refreshing exception.
Vanhanen writes: “Mauritius provides an excellent and rare example of a country where ethnic conflicts have been mitigated by adapting institutions to the requirements of ethnic nepotism.” By this he means that the unicameral parliament is deliberately set up to balance the representation of different ethnic groups.
Vanhanen explains, from an evolutionary point of view, the theory of “inclusive fitness” explains why individuals are likely to sacrifice themselves for others who share large numbers of their own genes.

Finland's prime minister's professor father: "blacks less intelligent than whites" - Stormfront White Nationalist Community
Today it has been stated, that Tatu Vanhanen may face charges because of his "criminal" opinions.
Vanhanen seniors opinions and outspoken preferences are despicable (supports miscgenisation as a means to reduce racial tensions f.ex.) he will hold his head up high and keep rocking the boat of pestilence of sociology which plagues the contemporary way of thinking.
Vanhanen's son, Matti Vanhanen, who is the leader of Finland's Centrist Party and the current prime minister, has declined to comment either on the current controversy or his father's opinions in general.

VDARE.com: 08/29/04 - Lynn and Vanhanen’s IQ And The Wealth Of Nations Vindicated
"Finland's National Bureau of Investigation is considering whether to start a criminal investigation into comments made by former political science professor emeritus Tatu Vanhanen, father of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen." Finnish Premier apologizes for father Helsink i, Finland, Aug. 12 (UPI)
This century's most talked-about—but least written-about —book of underground social science has been IQ and the Wealth of Nations, by Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen.
Recently, Vanhanen, who is an emeritus professor of political science at two different Finnish universities and, for that matter, the father of Finland's prime minister, gave an interview to a Finnish newspaper explaining the content of the book.

 TOQ-Louis Andrews-Vanhanen BR-Vol 2 No 4
These questions concerning ethnic conflicts are just some of those that Tatu Vanhanen, emeritus professor of political science at the University of Helsinki, takes up in a detailed study reported in his book, Ethnic Conflicts Explained by Ethnic Nepotism.
As Vanhanen notes, ethnic conflict resolution in a free multiethnic society requires reciprocity between groups, but in our case whites recognize only one group: blacks.  Building a viable community requires that whites think of themselves as a group, just as blacks do.  Only then can reciprocity work, and conflicts be resolved.
Though most people, including Vanhanen, treat inclusive fitness and kin selection as identical, the originator of the theory of inclusive fitness argued that it was a more general term than that of kin selection.  See Hamilton (2001).

 Global IQ: 1950-2050
The mean IQ of 185 countries, measured and estimated in Lynn and Vanhanen [1], were taken as the invariant IQ of each country over the 1950-2050 time period.
Since correction for the Flynn effect is substantial in Lynn and Vanhanen's national IQ estimates, and can be expected to strongly influence IQ scores published in the future, it is essential one bear it in mind in any analysis of population intelligence trends.
For each year in the hundred year period, each country's estimated population for that year was apportioned into bins of 5 IQ points using a normal distribution with the mean IQ for the country from Lynn and Vanhanen and the 15 point standard deviation defined for IQ scores.

Democratization - Tatu Vanhanen - Microsoft Reader eBook
Vanhanen uses data concerning the state of democracy and drawn from the 1850s to the present day in order to analyse and evaluate the prospects of democracy in each country.
His controversial conclusion - that the same explanatory variable appears to explain democratization satisfactorily in all parts of the world, in spite of significant historical and cultural differences between countries - provides theoretical grounds for political and social strategies intended to improve social prerequisites of democracy in the world.
The author analyses and compares data from 170 countries, in order to construct a compelling argument, concluding that democratization is closely linked to resource distribution.

02/27/02 - The Intelligence Of Nations
Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen examine IQ scores and economic indicators in 185 countries.
Next, Lynn and Vanhanen review the scientific literature and find that IQ is an important determinant of educational attainment, earnings, economic success, etc. In the United States and Britain, the correlation between IQ and earnings for individuals is approximately 0.35.
Lynn and Vanhanen prove that the widespread though rarely stated assumption of economists and political scientists—that all peoples and nations have the same average IQ—is wildly wrong.

CIVIL SOCIETY, DEMOCRACY, AND THE MIDDLE EAST
Tatu Vanhanen has argued, "The relative distribution of economic, intellectual, and other power resources among various sections of the population is the fundamental factor that is assumed to account for the variation of political systems from the aspect of democratization." (15)
Tatu Vanhanen, The Process of Democratization: A Comparative Study of 147 States, 1980-88 (New York: Crane Russak, 1990), pp.
The problem with the alleged association between economic development and democracy is that the former is often measured using a country's Gross National Product/Gross Domestic Product and their growth.

Tevita Momoedonu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Momoedonu's second appointment, on 14 March 2001, came in the wake of an Appeals Court verdict that the interim government of President Josefa Iloilo and Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, both of whom had taken office when the coup had been put down, was unconstitutional, and ordered that the previous government be reinstated.
Momoedonu, however, stood as a candidate for the House of Representatives on the Bei Kei Viti Party ticket, but was defeated.
Momoedonu rendered his formal advice to President Iloilo to dissolve Parliament and call a general election.

 Definition of Ratu
Ratu is a title inherited by Fijians of chiefly rank.
The distinction between Ratus and commoners is slowly narrowing, as commoners are becoming better educated and have begun to work their way into the power structure.
For several elections, almost all ethnic Fijian members of the House, which is elected by universal suffrage, were Ratus; in recent elections this has diminished and fewer than half of the Fijian Representatives are currently of chiefly rank.
