Tautiska giesme (The National Song), is also the Lithuanian national anthem.
Following Lithuania's annexation by the Soviet Union, it was banned, yet in 1944 it was proclaimed the anthem of the Lithuanian SSR (until 1950).
During the years of occupation, people were persecuted for singing the Tautiska giesme (on some occasions, even when it was the official anthem of the Lithuanian SSR).
