The anthem, whose title means "Freedom", was adopted in 2004, along with the new national flag and coat of arms.
The bill to adopt Tavisupleba as the anthem was presented by the Minister of Culture Giorgi Gabashvili; in which the music was played for the deputies soon afterwards.
"Tavisupleba" succeeds the old anthemDideba zetsit kurtheuls, which was in use by the Democratic Republic of Georgia from 1918 to 1921, and again by the newly independent (from Soviet Union) Georgia from 1990 to 2004.
"Tavisupleba" (in het Georgisch: თავისუფლება), (in het Nederlands: Vrijheid) is het nieuwe volkslied van Georgië.
"Tavisupleba" verving het oude volkslied Dideba zetsit kurtheuls.

It is believed that Tavisupleba is appealing especially to Georgians who feel nostalgic for the early years of post-Soviet independence when Abkhazia and South Ossetia had not completed their secession.
GORBI director Pachulia also believes an alliance between Tavisupleba and the ruling coalition is possible, although he says he cannot elaborate on the government's views on this particular issue.
The Central Election Commission initially indicated that the Tavisupleba leader could be barred from running as a candidate because -- under Georgian law -- only citizens who have been residents of the country for at least the past two years are eligible.

Many view the primaries with skepticism and see no logic in the unification of the four parties that at first sight have different political programs and agendas, although the political movement Tavisupleba (Freedom), the Conservative Party and the New Rightists are all rightist-conservative parties.
The only party with a different political agenda is the Labor Party, a leftist party, but its candidates won’t take part either in the mid-term elections or the primaries.
Tavisupleba will have candidates in the election districts of Batumi and Shuakhevi.

Tavisupleba, chaired by Constantine Gamsakhurdia (son of Georgia's late president Zviad Gamsakhurdia), will have two nominees.
Gamsakhurdia junior did not attend the signing ceremony, and he sent an authorized representative to sign the memorandum in his absence.
For sure the word "tavisupleba" means freedom/liberty, and it's ok. The word "dideba" in my English-Georgian Dictionary has meaning of "glory", so that word can be used in the translation too.
And I really like "Tavisupleba", never cared for the other post-independence anthem, but "Tavisupleba" quickly became a top favourite of mine.
The broadcast itself does not speak about four national anthems in the past 14 years but just says: "Former SovietGeorgia is now on its fourth national anthem." A number of four makes sense if you include the change to the lyrics of the SSR anthem after Stalin's death.
