Evidence for Tawassul by a Sunni Writer
It implicitly proves the validity of tawassul through a deceased one as well, since tawassul through a living or dead person is not through a physical body or through a life or death, but rather through the positive meaning (ma`na tayyib) attached to the person in both life and death.
This then, and a certain person has written an article that tawassul to Allah Most High through the righteous is unlawful, while the overwhelming majority of scholars hold it permissable, and the evidence that the writer uses to corroborate his view point is devoid of anything that demonstrates what he is trying to prove.
In declaring tawassul permissable, we are not hovering on the brink of idolatory (shirk) or coming anywhere near it, for the conviction that Allah Most High alone has influence over anything, outwardly, is a conviction that flows through us like our very lifeblood.

 Tawassul (Resorting to Intermediary)
Tawassul (Resorting to Intermediary) Some people claim that asking for help to other than god is polytheism.
When we make Tawassul, it means that we seek the Mercy of Allah by resorting to a connection who was more obedient toward Allah and, as a result, Allah answers his/her prayers faster than us.
The issue is not that they are afraid of people associating others with Allah, rather, it is a political issue based on antagonizing Muslims in order to consolidate their own power and authority over Muslims, and history is the witness to what they have done.

Tawassul and it's position in Islam
Tawassul (using intermediaries in supplication to Allah) through the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), Awliya and righteous believers is permitted, rather recommended according to the four schools of Sunni Islam.
Tawassul can be carried out through one's own righteous deeds, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), righteous people who have passed away and those who are still alive.
It implicitly proves the validity of Tawassul through a deceased person, as Tawassul through a living or dead person is not through a physical body or through life or death, rather, through the positive meaning attached to the person in both life and death.

Tawassul has three concepts, of which two are deemed correct, and according to Ibn Taymiyyah, whoever rejects these two concepts of tawassul is either an infidel or an apostate.
To quote Rashíd Rièà himself, those who seek tawassul are like guests who approach the host for some of their needs, and at times request the members of the household or friends of the hosts who have been appointed to serve the guests, since they consider everything to be the favour of the host.
The Du‘à’ Tawassul which is found in Mafàtíå al-Jinàn is the same supplication of tawassul which all Sunní narrators of åadíth unanimously regard as Æaåíå (authentic) and relate that the Prophet taught it to a blind man who recovered his eyesight by reciting it.

The Du'a' Tawassul which is found in Mafatih al-Jinan is the same supplication of tawassul which all Sunni narrators of hadith unanimously regard as sahih (authentic) and relate that the Prophet taught it to a blind man who recovered his eyesight by reciting it.
Du'a' tawassul, where devotion is expressed to the Prophet (s) and his Infallible Ahl al-Bayt ('a), is not exclusively meant for the Shi'ah but was widely popular among the Sunnis until Ibn Taymiyyah and later Ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab came on the scene with their weird interpretation.

Tawassul and Waseelah literally means to make a request or supplicate through a means.
To make Tawassul to Almighty Allah that He accepts the Du’aa due to one having performed a certain good deed is permissible and unanimously accepted.
In this narration, Tawassul through people is established, ‘…through the right of those who ask’ and Tawassul through one’s deeds is supported by the second part.

The Correct Understanding of Waseelah > Chapter 7: Waseelah
Tawassul by means of Allah’s Beautiful Names is to invoke Allah mentioning His Beautiful Names, like saying, “O Allah, I ask you for You being the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, the Most Gracious, the All-Knower that You grant me safety and well being…” This form of Tawassul is known from numerous Ahaadeeth.
Tawassul by means of righteous deeds is to invoke Allah by mentioning one’s righteous actions, in which he feared Allah and hoped for His Mercy and reward, while giving precedence to His obedience.
Tawassul by means of a Supplication made by a Righteous Person is also reported from the practice of the Sahabah (radhi allahu anhu).

Hence, Al-Albani’s interpretations and understanding that “tawassul done by an intermediary who is in his grave is Islamically unlawful” is false and meaningless.
It is correct to call what he did tawassul and istighathah (seeking or asking for help), because he went to the grave of the Messenger (Salla Allahu ‘alayhi wasallam) asking him to save them from the calamity that hit them by him asking Allahu Ta’ala to give them rain.

Tawassul can be done using an intermediary who is living in this life, or living the life of the grave (barzakh).

['Aalim Network QR] Tawassul and Tabaruk (II)
As to the meaning of the word TAWASSUL, it literaly means "seeking or using a means or meditator for approaching and acquiring and end".
The critique of Tawassul and Tabaruk argue that it is shirk for you to use any means or mediator except Allah (SWT) Himself for approaching Him and receiving his blessing.
In light of this approach we can define TAWASSUL as "an attempt on the part of a believer (please note that I am saying a believer) to approach God and seek his blessing by approaching a mediators whose status and respect before God is viewed to be very high." The question remains why not directly?

Furthermore, the reality of tawassul is nothing but supplicating by means of the high station of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) with his Lord, Mighty and Majestic.
Making tawassul does not imply the Prophet's (Allah bless him and give him peace) influence over or management of affairs, as this is exclusive to Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Whoever deems it permissible to make tawassul through the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) during his life time, but impermissible to do so after his passage to the hereafter, believing that influence vanishes after death, holds a clearly problematic belief, for attributing an influence over affairs to other than Allah.

Although I had not studied much about Islam and the practices of tawassul at that time, I had been told by trustworthy Muslims that using pious individuals as intermediaries when asking Allah for something was a blessed opportunity that I couldn’t afford to miss.
But Wahhabis are extremists; their rejection of tawassul is a pre-text for declaring that all Muslims in the world are heathens and idolators who must be dealt with.

People who say that Tawassul [to draw near to what one seeks after and to approach that which one desires] is allowed, use the following two verses to prove their argument.
Allah says, " Those whom they call upon do desire (for themselves) means of access [tawassul] to their Lord, - even those who are nearest: they hope for His Mercy and fear His Wrath: for the Wrath of thy Lord is something to take heed of." [isra 17: 57]
Tawassul is definitely allowed, but to seek to get close to Allah through saints and by visiting saintly graves as in the given fatwa is equal to shirk [associating with Allah].

That is so that we may refute what the Sufis say about tawassul, because some of them interpret it as meaning that it is permissible to seek to draw close to Allaah by the Prophets and awliya’ (“saints”).
The petitioner who makes tawassul only desires to place, at the front of his petition, what may be a cause for the granting of his petition by the One Who alone gives and withholds, the Owner of the Day of Judgment.

You wrote that Tawassul is not permitted in Islam.

It should be appreciated that at this point that the Tawassul being sought here is by the means of supplication from both the blind man and the Prophet not through the Prophet being an intermediary.

Actually, the topic of Tawassul (using a means to seek Allah's help) is one of the controversial issues among Muslim nation that has not been understood in its due perspective, and which proved hostility and hatred among different groups.
Muslims are supposed to rely on the understanding of Salaf (Prophet and his Companions, the second generation after them, and the third generation after).

The one who asks using the mediation (tawassul) of these prophets TO GOD, in order that his request may be accepted, is a believer and a monotheist, and he is not a polytheist because he is asking God--not asking the prophets--but asking for the sake of their honor as prophets.
If mediation (tawassul) by way of the personages of the Prophet and pious people was association and unbelief (shirk and kufr)--as ignorant people have claimed, then the Companions would have denied the use of mediation (tawassul) by `Umar and Mua'wiyah.
That is why we summarize and conclude that it is permissible to ask God by means of the Prophet and his mediation (tawassul) before his advent--as was done by our father Adam (s)--after his birth, during his life and after his death, as we have determined from the previous discussion.
