Unit Manufacturing Processes: Issues and Opportunities in Research -- Executive Summary   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Advances in unit process technologies can be targeted at any one, or all, of these components, although usually all five are affected to some extent by a change in any one of the components.
The overall organization of unit processes can be conceptualized in three-dimensional space with one axis being the unit process families; the second axis, the unit process components; and the third axis, the types and combinations of materials being processed.
It is often convenient to represent process criteria and mapping of defects and damage in terms of process parameters, in a format known as "process maps." This may entail the development of databases that are useful in characterizing material behavior under extreme conditions (e.g., high temperature, high strain rate).

Ten taxonomy myths   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
In the biological and library sciences, taxonomy development is a long-term, collaborative effort involving classification specialists (see International Association for Plant Taxonomy and Library of Congress).
Taxonomies evolve slowly through a consensus process that involves representatives from multiple public and private sector organizations.
A taxonomy for the sales function in one company is unlikely to work in another company even in the same industry.

Conference Paper - Selecting Business Processes for reengineering
Looking towards the process as a whole helps the company to go beyond its myopic concerns for individual department activities and scan the functions with the customer in the mind and with the objectives of the company as the goal.
The taxonomy seems to represent the main business processes for any firm within our research focus but it is not necessary that every firm needs to have all the eight processes mentioned here.
Now that the business processes have been defined and are in place, it is worthwhile to exploit their knowledge to the fullest.

The taxonomy chosen for this study emphasizes the physical process by which the configuration or structure of a material is changed.
Included in this family are the traditional processes of plating, machining, and grinding, as well as nontraditional removal processes such as electrodischarge and electrochemical machining.
Structure-change processes alter the microstructure of a workpiece, either throughout its bulk or in a localized area, such as its surface.
