The name of Tay Son is used in many ways referring back to the period of peasant rebellions and decentralized dynasty established between the eras of the Le and Nguyen dynasties in history of Vietnam.
The three Tay Son brothers styled themselves as the champions of the people, promising to evict the corrupt officials, such as the southern regent Nguyen Phuc Loan, and restore the legitimate authorities.
Since the Tay Son were supported by the Vietnamese people, their enemies in every case had to rely on foreign armies to impose their rule over the country.

The ruling Nguyen family were all killed by the Tay Son rebels, with the exception of Nguyen Anh, the sixteen-year-old nephew of the last Nguyen lord, who escaped to the Mekong Delta.

The story of the Son Tay raid can be said to begin in the spring of 1970 when it was reported that an increasing number of American prisoners of the North Vietnamese had died in prison from beatings, torture, and starvation by their captors.
Son Tay, on the Song Con River about twenty-three miles west of Hanoi, was one of the prisons under surveillance.
Over the Son Tay compound, the flares worked perfectly, so the choppers flew to a planned holding area on islands in the Finger Lake, seven miles west of Son Tay, while the C-130 circled to drop a firefight simulator (firecrackers with timed fuses) on the sapper [secondary] school.

Son Tay/Op KINGPIN was indeed an extraordinary success only marred by the fact that the POWs had already been shifted.
I don't think info on conditions in the camp would've been altered by that much, AFAIK there was plenty of anecdotal evidence pre-Son Tay of the extreme privations suffered by captured Americans in NV POW camps, the successful rescue of prisoners from Son Tay would only have confirmed such accounts at the most.
Perhaps another more immediate effect would've been the recognition for an indispensable integrated specops doctrine which could've avoided the MAYAGUEZ fiasco in 1975, where basically all the lessons of Son Tay were totally forgotten and the US Marines involved paid the price in blood.
