This is the oldest lighthouse in Ontario and second oldest in Canada, one of the oldest buildings in Toronto, and the oldest lighthouse on either side of the Great Lakes.
Pelée Island is accessible by ferries from Kingsville and Leamington, Ontario, and from Sandusky, Ohio.
The Tay Township Heritage Committee has received ownership of the lighthouse; information is needed on restoration plans.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded a $96,000 grant to a five-organization collaborative, lead by the Friends of the Tay Watershed Association, for their Tay Watershed Lake Management Planning Program.
The consortium is composed of the Friends of the Tay Watershed Association, Otty Lake Association, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Tay Valley Township and the Community Stewardship Council of Lanark County.
The Friends of the Tay Watershed have received a very generous donation from Nancy Kenyon of a St. Lawrence rowing skiff, originally constructed by Perth boat builder, Jack Walker.

In 1998 the townships of South Sherbrooke, Bathurst and North Burgess amalgamated to form the new Township of Bathurst Burgess Sherbrooke (BBS).The name of the new township was later renamed to Tay Valley in June 2002.
According to the 2001 census, the municipality is home to 5,440 residents, which was a 5% increase over 1996. The largest settlements in the Township are the hamlets of Glen Tay, Wemyss, Fallbrook, DeWitt Corners, Brooke, and Maberly.
This historic community was settled in the early 1800's, when several hundred Scottish, and later Irish, soldiers and settlers established the "Scotch Line".
