In another petition, addressed this week to the Supreme Court of Justice, seven farmers from the Triangle town of Tayibe demanded the suppression of the «proportionality tax» imposed by the Government to owners of wells used for agricultural purposes.
This tax compels farmers to pay for water, even when it is not provided by the state-owned water carrier Mekorot, but taken from a privately-owned well.
The second ground presented by the farmers of Tayibe was that Jewish farmers were offered various ways to benefit from a reduction or an exemption of tax.

Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land
It has long been SHADH’s dream to build a series of “resting stations” for working donkeys in local towns and villages and to use these as a base for free veterinary clinics in order to reach out to many more of the thousands of working donkeys in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
After the initial scorn, some of the local officials and residents began to show enthusiasm and made it clear that they wanted the project to begin as soon as possible.
So with that challenge in mind and as a pilot to ascertain the need for resting stations across the country, the Tayibe station was constructed and finally opened in July.

But what about the lone voices whose cries of grief seem now to be falling on deaf ears?
Would Tayibe’s words be wasted if no one ever read them, or might they contain a power that neither she nor we can comprehend?
There’s something special, possibly the natural air of authority, in the beginning phrase of her letter when she stated:

ANIMAL PEOPLE I Safe haven for donkeys | Jan-Feb 2006
LONDON––The Brooke Hospital for Animals on December 14 pledged to invest £281,000 over the next three years to assist Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land.
Founded in 2000 by former British Airways flight attendant and Jerusalem SPCA volunteer Lucy Fensom, Safe Haven has about 90 donkeys rescued from Israel and Palestine in sanctuary care, and in August 2005 added a clinic site at the village of Tayibe, near the Palestinian border, which provides basic care to donkeys from either side.
Safe Haven won start-up help from the World Society for the Protection of Animals, but had struggled ever since, fundraising manager Wendy Ahl told ANIMAL PEOPLE.

Lucy has always been aware that however many donkeys she can provide a home for, there are many hundreds more needing help across Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
In the summer of 2005 therefore, Safe Haven opened Israel’s first “resting station” for working donkeys and horses in the village of Tayibe, close to the Palestinian border.
This station comprises a simple shelter and water troughs and is used as the base for free weekly veterinary clinics, providing care for the animals and support and advice for their owners.
