Tazewell County is a county located in the U.S. state — officially, "Commonwealth" — of Virginia.
The land for the county was taken from portions of Wyth and Russell Counties.
In the county, the population was spread out with 21.40% under the age of 18, 8.40% from 18 to 24, 27.20% from 25 to 44, 27.50% from 45 to 64, and 15.50% who were 65 years of age or older.

 Introductory Letter
When the Witten family established the first farm in what is now Tazewell County, sometime around 1770 around what is now the Museum site, members of the Cherokee nation in North Carolina were still using the area as a place for hunting and to reside temporarily.
Baptists, persecuted elsewhere, found the Tazewell County region to be an isolated safe haven, where one of the earliest settlements quickly became known as Baptist Valley.
Tazewell is one of the relatively few Virginia counties whose original records were not damaged or destroyed during the Civil War.

A great many were catalogued and published by the Tazewell County Historical Society, and also by the Library of Virginia.
In the late 1800s, there was a men's college (Tazewell College) and a women's college (Tazewell Female Seminary), founded locally to educate the young adults of the immediate region.
It was taken by a photographer from Lexington, VA and apparently was his effort to replicate the view sketched by George Bickley for an engraving in his 1850 book on Tazewell County.

Moses was the son of Joseph and Phoebe (McMahon) Workman who lived in Tazewell County, Virginia at the time of their deaths.
It took about three years to search all of the records at the Tazewell County Court house and the Logan County Court house to document all of his children, and to sort out which children were from each marriage.

Daniel William Peery, born on August 16, 1864 near Edinburgh in Grundy County, Missouri, was the son of Dr. Arch Perry and his wife, Elizabeth Kirk Peery, the seventh of a family of eight children.
When Tazewell County was established in 1800, William Peery donated 13 acres of land for the county seat.
In December, 1800 George and William Peery were appointed coroners for Tazewell County, and William's son, Thomas, represented Tazewell County in the Virginia House of Delegates at the sessions of 1819-20 and 1823-24, and at one period was a justice of the county court.
