From the Cyclopaedia of NZ, 1902 J J Calderwood is mentioned as having been the manager of Te Aroha Mineral Waters in 1897 and the manager of Menzies and Co, Waihi in 1900.
If there was a Te Aroha and Auckland plant it could explain why there are such anomalies as both R R Menzies and J J Calderwood being reported as Managers of Te Aroha Soda and Mineral Water Co at the same time.
In March 1889 he was appointed by brewers Hancock and Co manager of the Te Aroha Mineral Water Co Ltd. In 1889 he purchased the business of Buteman Bros forming Menzies and Co in partnership with Samuel Hirst (their trademark shows the M and H included in the monogram).

As to the date of opening, the "Te Aroha News" of Saturday 24th October 1908 stated that the finishing touches were being put to the new railway station and business was being transferred to the new building and as far as the records relate was opened on Monday the 26th October 1908.
The station was purchased by the "Te Aroha Mountain Railway Society Inc." in 1994.

The selection of 4 is from the Te Aroha Museum who have built up a truly outstanding collection.
2 items of reference can date these pieces - Te Aroha had electricity from 1906 and these pictures only show telegraph lines and the fact that 12 sets of this exact style was obtained for the opening of the Borough of Inglewood in 1912.
