Te Matua Ngahere is a giant kauri tree in the Waipoua Forest of Northland Region, New Zealand.
Although not as massive or tall as its neighbour Tane Mahuta, Te Matua Ngahere is much stouter, with a girth of 18 metres (59 feet).
The tree is a remnant of the ancient subtropical rain forest that once grew on the North Auckland Peninsula.

Waymarked trails lead from Highway 12 to two imposing kauri giants: Tane Mahuta (god of the forest) and Te Matua Ngahere (father of the forest).
Tane Mahuta is the largest known kauri, standing 51.5m high, with a trunk measuring over 4m in diameter; it is estimated to be 1200 years old.
Te Matua Ngahere is only 30m high but has a still thicker trunk than Tane Mahuta; it is about 2000 years old.

Circumference of around 16.4m (54 feet) and height of 29.9m (98 feet), this Kauri tree has incredible prescence, and is estimated at over 2000 years old.

A short walk from the car park brings us to Te Matua Ngahere, the 'father of the forest', having a trunk over 5 m in diameter.
Close by are the Four Sisters, four tall trees in close proximity.
