The paper introduces first briefly the knowledge modeling concept of KSM and, then, the operation with the environment is described and illustrated with some examples of screens.
The enviroment helps developers in applying the whole methodology in order to build the operational version of the final system and it also assists end-users during the operation and maintenance of existing knowledge models.
KSM was one of the results of our research group ISYS (Intelligent Systems) in the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Technical University of Madrid.

In its second phase, it will be an operational system with a regular programme of courses, and will be open to integrate new centers and users with applications and course contents addressed to their needs.
ETSIT started in September 1992 and, a first experimental system, that interconnects Madrid and Las Palmas (Canary Islands) Schools with Olympus satellite, was ready in December and has been used in two courses.
In the last one, entitied "Radiofrequency circuits'', 15 students attended in Madrid (local class room with a lecturer) and 21 students attended in Las Palmas (remote class room with a tutor).

Jesús Rivero, from the Technical University of Madrid, was nominated as Spanish representative in CEPIS.
Also, the presence of FESI in the data processing scenario has been established in the Spanish main Fair and Exhibition of Computer Science materials and installations SIMO, to be held in November in Madrid in the Juan Carlos I Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones, where there will be a stand dedicated to FESI.
After the success of the Panorama Informatico published the last year, this will became an established publication based on four long papers structured in a volume of 200 pages to be published every year as a way of ensure the presence of FESI in the Spanish professional world.

For many of these domains, and partly because of the increasing complexity of software, validation is an open issue and not straightforward at all, both from a technical and from a managerial point of view.
