Technical terminology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Technical terminology is the specialised vocabulary of a profession or of some other activity to which a group of people dedicate significant parts of their lives (for instance, hobbies or a particular segment of industry).
Sometimes technical terminology is termed jargon or, particularly in law, terms of art or words of art.
Technical terminology evolves due to the need for experts in a field to communicate with precision and brevity, but often has the (usually) undesired effect of excluding those who are unfamiliar with the particular specialized language of the group.

Language Acquisition   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Human language is made possible by special adaptations of the human mind and body that occurred in the course of human evolution, and which are put to use by children in acquiring their mother tongue.
Language B can be hypothesized at any point, and confirmed whenever the child hears a sentence with an agreement in it or disconfirmed when the child hears a sentence without agreement.

Reading in a Foreign Language: Technical vocabulary in specialised texts
It was found that technical vocabulary made up a very substantial proportion of both the different words and the running words in the texts, with one in every three running words in the anatomy text, and one in every five in the applied linguistics text being a technical word.
Anatomy has a much larger technical vocabulary (4,270 different words in Table 3) and when that vocabulary was rated on the scale in Table 1 it was found that two-thirds of that technical vocabulary (64.4%) is made up of word forms that are largely restricted to the field of anatomy.
Technical vocabularies can be large, and they can also account for a very large proportion of the running words or tokens in a text.

Bulgarian Translator's Blog: Technical and Language Issues in ERP Localization   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Although language or translation is hardly ever considered as a critical factor during planning, some companies prefer to roll out new systems in English-speaking countries first to avoid the complexities of multilingualism.
The technical complexities of supporting multiple languages in global ERP solutions have always been numerous, but these are being greatly simplified by the adoption of Unicode by most providers.
After dealing with all the business-related and technical complexities of deploying an ERP system on a global basis, it would be a shame if that investment were devaluated by presenting end users with a user interface or supporting documentation that is badly localized.

But based on Professor Mary Rosner's observations about changes in technical writing, as they are reflected historically in textbooks since the 1920s, and on my own perceptions of directions in technical writing today, I could justifiably assert that we have nearly come full circle.
When technical writing first began to be separated from other advanced writing courses, it retained many of the strategies and approaches of Advanced Exposition courses—the study of rhetoric, logical organization, conventions, formats.
Since students are encouraged to avoid all jargon and technical terms, they need to invent strategies in the use of language with which they have had little previous experience.
