Asgard (Stargate) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Their beaming technology can additionally be used as a weapon (As seen in the first Episode of Season Two of Stargate: Atlantis when one of Earth's ships equipped with the beaming technology uses them to blow up Wraith ships).
The beaming technology is mostly contained on Asgard ships, however, Anubis was able to steal the technology from the Asgard by probing Thor's mind.
Also, in the Stargate continuity, the Asgard were the aliens involved in the Roswell UFO incident (rogue scientists; namely, Loki).

 Event Movies -- Stargate
Out of all of the memorable moments in "Stargate", the most clever and well-executed one was the switcharoo near the end when the transporter/elevator takes James Spader and his wife away from Ra and simultaneously decapitates Ra's guard and delivers the head to him/her back on the pyramid ship.
The idea of the stargate itself was a great concept and Ra's guards looked menacing with their now-you-see-them-now-you-don't head gear.
Currently, there are four novels written by Bill McCay that expand upon the premise introduced in the Stargate movie: Rebellion, Retaliation, Retribution and Reconnaissance.

 Stargate
Each Stargate (with the exception of Earth's) is accompanied by a DHD (Dial Home Device), a piece of alien technology that controls the Stargate (Earth has gerry-rigged its own DHD).
SG-1 learns that the Stargate system was built not by the Goa'uld but by the Ancients, a race of human-like beings who learned to ascend to a higher level of existence; they became energy beings -- powerful, but who do not interfere in the affairs of others.
It was the Stargate -- an alien device that could send people and objects across the galaxy instantaneously.

COMICON.com: SDCC Stargate, Serenity, & Farscape - OH MY!
For the stargates located in space, they seem to use DHD technology that is built into the puddle-jumper ships themselves, which is a very cool idea.
Essentially, in the "stargate" universe, there is a huge difference in power needs between dialing a gate address that is in the same galaxy as the gate you are at versus dialing a gate address that is in a different galaxy.
In the stargate universe, the "money" that you have to pay is an extreme increase in the energy level that it takes to make the gate create a wormhold to another galaxy.

 Goa'uld
While many races in the galaxy, like the Asgard and the Ancients, developed their own technology over many thousands of years, the Goa'uld achieved their current level of technological strength by discovering or stealing the technology of other races and adapting it to their own use.
The Stargates themselves are a prime example of this; while they were created and built by the Ancients, the Goa'uld have controlled so many of the galaxy's Stargates for such a long period of time that they automatically take credit for their invention.
It is unknown if any individual pieces of Goa'uld technology were actually developed originally by the Goa'uld themselves; more often than not, the Goa'uld, in their arrogance, will claim to have 'invented' a piece of technology that they in fact did not.

The stargate operated by the U.S. Air Force's Stargate Command (SGC) at Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center near Colorado Springs, Colo., is one of a vast number of wormhole-generating "doors" that allow for near-instantaneous intergalactic travel.
(The last symbol in a stargate sequence is always the point of origin.) When a "puddle" of energy forms from the neutrino-Naquadah interaction, a person or device can pass through the puddle to emerge from the other stargate — often on a different planet, but sometimes in deep space or in orbit of a planet.
