Oddly enough it still has the same players as the NES Tecmo Bowl, which is to say it uses the 1988 rosters.
Although the game does little, if anything, to improve upon the last Tecmo Bowl (1991 Gameboy edition) the release is significant in many ways.
First, it reflects the broad appeal that Tecmo Bowl had and still has.

This means there is no information on Tecmo Bowl for NES, Tecmo Super Bowl I, II, or III for SNES or Genesis, and certainly no info on that crapfest that has Tecmo's name on it for the PSX.
Tecmo legend-A player who is a virtual unknown in real life, but is one of the best on Tecmo.
I think that originally Tecmo was planning to let the player rush the punt, but ran out of time to program it in, or encountered problems in the testing stage after trying to put it in.

Tecmo Super Bowl is played at a birds view overhead view.
The ingame graphics are okay...there's plenty of flicker and the little guys aren't to detailed (but decently animated.) If you've played the original Tecmo Bowl, you'll notice they are a lot smaller, but this actually allows more action on the screen.
However, the little video scenes that pop up to denote important actions (a close call, pass block, QB sack) are well detailed, and don't at all get in the way of the action.

Tecmos Super Bowl (SNES/Genesis) is close behind because it's essentially the same game ported to the SNES and Genesis.
Tecmo Bowl (NES) Is a great game but as also stated above if you're playing with experienced players they will pick every pass and block every field goal.

But then came Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition, which I later learned was very rare.
Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition came along and I purchased that, and it was great.

Tecmo Bowl brought us some of the greatest video game athletes of our time, not suprisingly it still has a devoted following.
Tecmo Super Bowl is one of the best video games ever, but if you ever actually made it to the super bowl and watched the halftime show, it was totally and absolutely not worth it.
