Ted Knight (December 7, 1923–August 26, 1986) was an American actor.
He died from cancer of the urinary tract at the age of 62 and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
Ted Knight has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to Television, at 6671 Hollywood Boulevard.

Ted Knight -- six-time Emmy nominee and two-time winner -- was best known as pompous, inept television news anchor Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," which ran from 1970 to 1977.
Knight made his film debut in a brief, non-speaking role as a prison guard in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960).
In 1970, Knight was cast as Ted Baxter, the news anchor for fictional television station WJM-TV in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Knight was nominated for an Emmy Award as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series each year from 1972 through 1977, winning in 1973 and 1976.

Knight spent most of the 1950s and 1960s doing commercial voice-overs and essaying minor TV and movie roles (he was the nonspeaking cop who handed Norman Bates a robe at the end of Hitchcock's Psycho [1960]).
Just barely making ends meet with TV guest spots and cartoon voices, Knight was rescued professionally in 1970 when he was cast in the role of vainglorious TV anchorman Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Though gravely ill, Ted Knight valiantly taped a years' worth of episodes before succumbing to cancer at the age of 62.

Having so many wonderful lead comics has happened in other movies, too, but the magic in Caddyshack is that each of the actors share the spotlight pretty evenly.
Ted Knight does not appear in it, and I've never seen a reference to it on any of the other Caddyshack web sites, so it appears that it was largely ignored by Caddyshack fans.
