Ted Levine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ted Levine (born May 29, 1957 in Parma, Ohio) is an American Buffalo Bill' Gumb in the 1991 blockbuster thriller The Silence of the Lambs.
Levine avoided this by playing more protagonists, such as a member of Al Pacino's police unit in Heat, astronaut Alan Shepard in the HBO mini-series From the Earth to the Moon, and Paul Walker's police superior in The Fast and the Furious.
Levine is an underrated actor whose superb performances are often overlooked, such as his uncredited role as the voice of Rusty Nail in 2001's Joy Ride, and his performance as Detective Sam Nico in the 2003 film Wonderland, based on the gruesome murders in Los Angeles Wonderland District.

Born in Cleveland, OH, Levine received his M.F.A. in acting from the University of Chicago before making frequent appearances in such 1980s made-for-television efforts as Michael Mann's Crime Story (1986) and his feature debut in 1987's Ironweed.
Though he received critical acclaim for his role in the controversial television series Wonderland (2000), the show aired a meager two episodes (though four were produced) before being pulled due to outcry over its portrayal of the mental health system and its inhabitants.
Bouncing back to the big screen, fans found that Levine could still be counted on to turn in absorbing performances in such features as Evolution and The Fast and the Furious (both 2001).

Ted Levine and Peter Madsen succeed, even as they move across different forms and structures that they essay on their musical roundabout.
Levine blows hard and hot on the alto, adding a few breathy notes as he works up “Three Short Pieces,” comprised of three segments: “Dawn/Storm/Nightsounds.” There is melody here, but that dissipates as Madsen scurries across the piano keys and disperses the notes.
When Levine comes back it is time for free expression that catapults them into a tumultuous whirl before calm descends and the tune is taken out in quiet grace.

If the The Silence of the Lambs was the only movie Ted Levine ever starred in, he would still be an unforgettable actor.
Born in Cleveland, Ted Levine is a veteran of the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, the home of such other formidable screen presences as John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, and Gary Sinise.
However, this prestigious role didn't open up Levine to a world of better movies--some of his films since then have included Bullet, Flubber, Wild, Wild West, and The Mangler, in which he played a cop who has to hunt down a maneating clothes dryer.

Silence's other manifestation of evil is the serial killer she's hoping Lecter will lead her to, Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine), his gruesome nickname bestowed upon him by the police because of his modus operandi: He skins his victims.
Balancing Hopkins' lip-smacking performance as the diabolical Lecter, and Levine's turn as the terrifying madman Buffalo Bill is Foster's dead-on portrayal of Starling, a classic hero.
The rare female action lead usually goes about her business in ass-hugging shorts and Wonderbra — Clarice Starling is almost Arthurian, having devoted her life to the cause of justice and swallowing her terror to battle dragons without the aid of stiletto heels or a big strong man to save her bacon.
