Police linked Menzies to Maurine Hunsaker's death after they found her identification cards in a room at the Salt Lake County Jail where Menzies had been held after being arrested for an alleged theft.
Menzies was convicted of the kidnapping and killing in 1988, although he has always maintained his innocence.

Menzies has resigned from his position as President of CAFTA and from the board of directors of the organization, so that he can pursue the federal Conservative party nomination in the riding of MacLeod, Alberta.

Behind the rhetoric, the insults and the fallacies that make up Ted Menzies’ most recent attack against the Canadian Wheat Board (Barley should be removed from the Wheat Board), lies a longstanding unwillingness to deal in facts.
Menzies appears to be confusing this project with another proposal that would see the construction of a malt processing plant in Alberta.
Menzies’ statement that “maltsters are short of barley this year but the Board is holding onto its barley stocks so it doesn’t have to disappoint potential overseas customers” is absolutely ludicrous.
