Ted Moore was born at Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand and attended Lincoln College, near Christchurch, from which he gained a B.Agr.Sc.
Ted Moore’s interest in the vegetation of the western region around Cobar developed, especially in relation to the "woody weed" problem that was worsening as a result of the high rainfall levels in the mid 50s.
Ted also added latitude and longitude coordinates to most of his earlier collections, because as he quite rightly put it ‘he knew where he was at the time of the collection’ and herbarium technical staff have been grateful for this ever since.

Moore, a jazz drummer and composer, continues: “That’s why I like the performance aspect of UC Jazz, because we really get in there and play and encourage people to try to step out and take chances on their instrument.
Moore is thrilled about performing two concerts with Brasilia in February: one in New York with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and the other in Vancouver with that city’s symphony.
Moore has met a number of students with classical music training who have “heard something in jazz they didn’t understand but that they wanted to understand.” It’s an experience similar to his own as a teenager.

I stood behind Ted in the line of kids waiting to get whacked, and when they called him up to get his, he told me how he would be damned if it would hurt and he damn sure wasn't going to cry no matter how hard they hit him.
Ted was really in love with economics by then and told me one time his big ambition in life was to be Secretary of the Interior or Secretary of Commerce in Washington.
Ted actually enjoyed the gig and really wasn't cynical about it like he normally was about anything having to do with his dad.

Ted Moore fought in the “War That Never Was” in Laos more than 30 years ago, but while the CIA’s Cold War battles are no longer top secret, Moore and hundreds of other Air America pilots and crewmen remain invisible to the U.S. government.
Moore was flying a UH-1 (Huey) helicopter and was moving ammunition at the base during the attack.
Moore also helped rescue thousands of civilians in Laos in March 1968, picked up downed American pilots and delivered and picked up CIA teams who were infiltrating positions along the Laos/Vietnam border.
