Ted, every time I saw a shot of Scott Peterson at the beginning of the investigation, he was walking around, talking on his cell phone, cell phone constantly attached to his ear.
ROWLANDS: Well, just this -- that early on in the investigation, after that first search warrant was served on the Peterson home, they pulled out the family computer and something on that computer dealing with GHB alerted them and that was an early theory with investigators as to how Laci Peterson may have been killed.
ROWLANDS: Well, that's the prosecution, or the theory that investigators used during their investigation is that he didn't necessarily kill his wife according to them, because he wanted to be with amber Frey, but he wanted to be Amber Frey like people down the road.

ROWLANDS: Well, I think that the perception has definitely changed from the beginning, when most of the leaks, if not all of them, were coming from the prosecution side, and really nothing was coming out of Scott Peterson's side, except for Scott Peterson's own statements, which really dug himself a bigger hole.
ROWLANDS: This will be the chance for all sides to argue whether or not to allow cameras in the courtroom, and Geragos will continue to argue to keep that prelim completely sealed and have it without any spectators, no media, no public.

 Making the Rounds
Rowlands asked Scott about the amount of time police were spending looking at him as a potential suspect instead of concentrating their efforts on finding Laci, and asked him why there wasn't more anger.
Rowlands noted that in the past, the only statement Scott's attorney had issued to the press was that he had avised Scott not to say anything to the press.
Rowlands speculated that Scott may have gone out on a limb, therefore, because of pressure he's getting from his family to get out and speak to the media; that he may have gone against his attorney's advice to appease his family.

'That Stayner Guy' on TV gets big break
Maybe it's the TV news reporter's easygoing bartender demeanor or maybe it's his altar boy looks (forgive me Ted Rowlands, for I have sinned...), but people have a tendency to unload their troubles to the Bay Area journalist, often while a camera is rolling.
Rowlands' most visible talent is for covering cases that half the journalists in the state are working on, and getting an exclusive anyway.
Rowlands was one of a handful of reporters to interview Peterson, starting with "Good Morning America" host Diane Sawyer and including KNTV's Jodi Hernandez (her interviews with Peterson and Gary Condit are touted on the NBC affiliate's Web site).

ROWLANDS: Well, I talked to Scott about that actually this morning, and he says that when he -- when they were having, you know, planning for the baby, he got a life insurance policy out on himself, and during that process also took one out on his wife, Laci, which is not uncommon.
