Correspondent Darrell McNeil reports; "The Teen Titans series would have been produced by Hanna-Barbera for ABC but was aced out in favor of the continuing search for a Smurf-like success story.
A shame too, because the series' story proposals promised a real treat for Titans fans, Basically, all the Titans would be present, except for Terra and Robin (who's on detached service to Super Friends).

dOc DVD Review: Teen Titans: Complete First Season (2003)
That Warner's Teen Titans animated series is a rousing success appears to owe far less to the original comic than it does the ingenious method in which it was adapted to the screen.
The series has adapted a style drawn from the world of anime, and the creators were smart enough to keep the series evolving, with new members coming in as time passes, and using story arcs rather than one shot episodes that don't add up to much.
Questions like "why are a bunch of teens allowed to live on their own, not go to school and fight as vigilantes" are not to be pondered, as the show, though it features serious moments in the Slade arc and otherwise, is as much concerned with goofy fun as realism and angst.

With the Teen Titans animated series now cancelled after a 5 season-long run, Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo is meant as a last hoorah for the cast of characters.
Teen Titans has always been about pumping the septic tank of hackneyed anime conventions, but this was just overkill.
There is one bit where Beast Boy sings the Teen Titans theme song karaoke-style (he actually sings the translated lyrics of the Japanese version, rather than the standard US theme), but I thought that was kind of neat.

The scene from the Teen Titans animated series was from the episode where the character of Terra, which Bandai recently produced as an action figure, had betrayed the other Titans, and was in the process of taking them down one by one.
After she betrayed the Titans and returned to her "master", Slade (better known in the "comics" DC universe as Deathstroke the Terminator), she was given a new uniform, a sort of segmented armor, which also allowed Slade to control her actions to a degree.
Granted, the figure is not a precise duplication of her appearance in the Teen Titans episode that gave me this idea.

 Beast Boy
He later joined the West Coast team of the Teen Titans (known as Titans West), and was part of the New Teen Titans assembled by Raven.
He also has lost many teammates and fell in love with Terra (a member of the Teen Titans) and was heartbroken to discover that she was a traitor working for Deathstroke and hated the Teen Titans with a passion.
Season 5 of Teen Titans supposedly focuses on Beast Boy a great deal, as it deals with his history as a member of the animated series' incarnation of the Doom Patrol.

 Raven
In the Teen Titans animated series (2003-present), Raven (with a dry, throaty voice provided by Tara Strong) appears much younger (as do all the other characters) than in the comic book variants, though her costume is relatively unchanged.
Raven often worries that her fellow Titans don't like her, possibly because she is the daughter of a demon and has a complex lifestyle that her friends don't understand too well.
Her room inside Titans Tower is decorated with things from her past, as well as statues and pictures about of the creepy-crawlies her powers like to conjure up.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News: When There's Trouble…: J. Torres talks 'Teen Titans Go'
But what you may not know is that the series is hugely popular already, just two weeks into its life and that fans of the show, based on the popular DC Comics franchise (which has been revived by Geoff Johns and Mike McKone), will get a companion comic book series this fall.
The other big superhero animated series on television, "Justice League," also has a comic book counterpart, "Justice League Adventures," and the stories in that comic tend to be completed in one issue, a trend you'll see carried over in Torres Titan's tenure.
Plus, I encourage all you 'older' Titans fans out there to pick up an issue and share it with a son, daughter, niece, nephew, neighbor's kid, etc. The Teen Titans have always been about the next generation, and the old guard passing on a certain legacy to the new.

He was able to turn the Titans into animal forms (Robin into a monkey, Cyborg into a bear, Starfire into a cat and Raven into a bunny) in which their powers were useless (with the exception of Beast Boy, now a table lamp, who went from transforming into animals to transforming into inanimate objects).

IGN: Teen Titans TV Series Cancelled?
Teen Titans was a departure from the previous DC Universe animated series, using an anime-style and versions of the characters that were specifically skewed towards a younger audience.
Based on the 1982 re-vamp of the original Teen Titans comic series, the comic series was dubbed The New Teen Titans because of the major changes and new characters created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez.
Unfortunately for Titans, some creative changes (most notably the departure of George Perez as the artist, to be replaced by Jose Garcia-Lopez) caused the sales to slide as X-Men continued its meteoric rise to the top of the comics industry mountain.

The point is, the Titans series has always tried to meld the real struggles teens face with those of a teenage superhero, and it pays off here in spades.
The comics were the groundwork for this juxtaposition, but it feels as if it has fully gelled for the animated series in "Betrayal." Part of this is due to two specific sequences dealing with the Terra and Beast Boy situation.
Guilt laden over her betrayal of the Titans, Terra attempts to salvage her relationship with Beast Boy by taking him out on a date after all, to get him away from the tower when Slade attacks.
