Tegla Loroupe grew up with 24 siblings; her father had four wives.
In 1994 Loroupe ran her first major (A battle in 490 BC in which the Athenians and their allies defeated the Persians) marathon in (A Mid-Atlantic state; one of the original 13 colonies) New York and won.
Tegla Loroupe went on to win almost all of the major marathons in the world.

Tegla Loroupe, the diminutive Kenyan who became the first African woman running superstar on American roads, was returning to compete in the New York City Marathon for the first time since 2000, and after deplaning at the airport, she got on a typically long line at passport control.
On Friday, Loroupe pronounced herself "a little nervous, like 1994" but "glad to be back." She has occasionally been beset by back problems in recent years, but says that on Sunday, "I'm looking forward to beating my time from 1994," her triumphant 2:27:37.
Loroupe was the first West Pokot tribeswoman to excel internationally as a distance runner.

Instead of appearance money or a World record bonus, Loroupe asked the organizers to donate the money for a school which is to be founded in Kapenguria, the main town of the province where she comes from.

Tegla Loroupe of Kenya finishing first at the Avon Running New York Mini Marathon held in Central Park on Saturday, May 22nd.
Loroupe was awarded $15,000 for winning the 28th running of the prestigious all-women's 10K race, which she finished in 31 minutes and 48 seconds.

 Ace Loroupe forms peace foundation
The initiative to be known as the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation was launched on Monday night by a Minister in the Office of the Vice President, Linah Jebii Kilimo.
Speaking during the function, Loroupe said the foundation was a charity organisation, whose purpose was to support and further initiatives that promote peace among the people in the conflict and civil strife hit areas.
Loroupe said the foundation has also acquired 22 acres of land in West Pokot District to build an academy that will provide learning opportunities for children displaced or orphaned by conflict and HIV/Aids in the Greater Horn of Africa region.
