  Tekken 4 Review PS2
Tekken 4 plays just like its predecessors for the most part, the four buttons, square, triangle, circle and X control each individual limb of your fighter and most special moves are accomplished by pressing these buttons in a specific order while tapping the D pad in different directions.
Tekken 4 now also includes the uneven/inclined surfaces contrary to what you might think the fighter on the higher ground is at the disadvantage since he/she is vulnerable to getting their feet taken out from under them and then being juggled in mid air for successive hits.
Tekken 4 could have done with more new moves and some of the game-play aspects are slightly dubious such as the inclined fighting arenas.

 Tekken 4 for PlayStation 2 Review - PlayStation 2 Tekken 4 Review
Beyond that, Tekken 4, like its predecessors, is an ideal fighting game both for those who've been playing fighting games for years, as well as for those who've never played a fighting game before.
Tekken 4 offers a standard assortment of gameplay modes, all of which revolve around pitting two skilled martial artists against each other in elimination matches.
Most notably, Tekken 4 is the first game in the series to take place in closed arenas of different shapes and sizes--all of its predecessors took place on infinitely wide stages.

Tekken 3 pushed the speed up a bit and introduced the side step and the parry, adding another dimension to evasion and new strategies to be considered.
Tekken 4 has also gone much heavier on the storyline too and it's a damn cool one.
Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament unfortunately did not match the speed of their arcade brethren and at times it was so slow that it felt as if the bouts took place underwater.

Tekken 4 - PS2 Preview   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Continuing a successful partnership with games giant Namco, Tekken 4 is the latest release in a series that, to date, has sold over 5.7 million units in PAL versions alone, and was a key release at the launch of both the Psone and PlayStation 2.
New to Tekken 4, a 50/60Hz option for the PAL version ensures high quality visuals and fast-paced action whatever your home setup, and there's even a high definition television option.
To succeed at Tekken 4 you'll need to be more than just a button-basher - but there are few things more satisfying than putting together a bone-crunching combo that leaves your opponent in a crumpled heap.

Note: This is the Japanese version of Tekken 4, and any features mentioned may be subject to change before the domestic release.
Now in it's fifth edition (despite what the title tells you), the Tekken series has always been a stalwart, with each version improving on the features of the last with additional characters, moves and modes, but none that really turn the series in a life-giving direction.
And Tekken Force Assault, a reworking of the mode found in Tekken 3, faces the same great idea with a similar disappointment; it's only fun to play through this mode with a few of the characters because of the annoying auto-focus system that really helps one appreciate the joy of the one-on-one duel.

Tekken 4 PlayStation 2 game review from allPS2.com
Here in Tekken 4, the new freedom does require some new strategies and it ultimately impacts the hardcore series fans, who have their attack patterns honed through hours of practice on earlier installments, far more than it’ll effect the casual player just starting out.
Tekken 4’s Training absolutely pales compared to Virtua Fighter 4’s comprehensive lesson plan, but there is a bone thrown to the hardcore: a challenge to perform every move in a character’s move list under an extremely short time limit.
Tekken Force Assault is included, using the characters in a brawler-style game against multiple opponents, but it falls a bit flat: awkward fixed camera views and some uninspired environments make it not nearly as fun to tear through hordes of faceless goons as Tekken Force was in Tekken 3.

Tekken Force is now deeper than ever, and enables to lead a Tekken 4 character battling through enemies among four original stages, and does a great job of taking on the Final Fight-like gameplay.
Tekken 4 is a great addition to Namco's strong running fighting series, but it is not as groundbreaking as it should have been.
Tekken 4 is a deep and solid fighting game, but the next big step for Namco would be to expand their horizons and deliver a fighting experience like no other.

Tekken 4:n juonikuvio tekee varsin selväksi sen, että juoni beat 'em upeissa on noin yleensäkin vain tarpeeton hidaste.
Tekken Force on mukava lisä, ei ehkä ohjelmointiteknisesti Virtua Fighter 4:n A.I.-järjestelmän tasoa, mutta rutkasti hauskempi ainakin lyhyellä tähtäimellä.
Luotettavaa jos kohta yllätyksetöntä - Tekken 4 on genrensä kärkeä.

 PS2 Game Reviews: Tekken 4
Namco did it once with Tekken Tag Tournament, and they've done it again with Tekken 4; they were able to completely deflicker pretty much the whole image, and implement an effect that comes close to being full screen anti-aliasing.
Seeing as how Tekken 4 features three brand new characters (I don't really count Christie, as she and Eddy share the exact same moves) the hardcore Tekken fan has 3 new move sets to master.
Tekken 4 on the other hand is filled with voice acting, both English and Japanese.

 PlayStation Pro 2 - Tekken 4 Review
There are over 20 fighters in Tekken 4, with four of them being new to the series.
All in all, there are a total of 9 modes in Tekken 4 -- story battle, arcade, time attack, VS battle, team battle, survival, practice, training, and Tekken Force.
Tekken 4 is worth a purchase, but I just hope that the good folks at Namco really push the envelope in the next game.

We are glad to report that Tekken 4 has not been left high and dry, and brings home many new features and extras on top of an excellent arcade fighting title.
Tekken 4 is undoubtedly the most renovated title in the series.

The Tekken series is no slouch when it comes to features, and Tekken 4 continues this tradition.
There are eight, count'em, eight gameplay modes in Tekken 4 including: arcade, survival, versus, practice, training, team battle, story battle, and "Tekken Force." Where most people will spend their time with the arcade and versus modes, force mode is worth checking out too.
Tekken 4 introduces three new fighters into the mix: Steve Fox, Craig Marduk and Christie Monterio and each new fighter brings a unique style of fighting to the mix, especially Steve Fox.

Tekken fans will want to check out Tekken 4 for the new characters, but theres not a lot here besides the environment and subtle changes that will differentiate it from the rest of the series.
Tekken 4 now incorporates the use of walls and breakable objects in arenas that no longer stretch into infinity.
For example, Tekken 4 has 23 characters total, but five of them are merely duplicates with different "skins" to alter their appearance.

Tekken force makes a comeback but whilst being better quality than T3's force, it still doesn't make up for the fact that there's something awry in the state of Tekken.
From the eyes of this long standing Tekkenite, Tekken 4 is a bit of a disappointment; a little more imagination would have gone a long way toward making this the smash hit title it should have been.

Tekken 4, while not perhaps as interactive as these other games, has added some breakable elements to their fighting environments, and if you punch someone in the face, it will hurt them even more if their head smacks into the wall behind them, which is a nice touch.
Sega's Virtua Fighter 4 does a really fabulous job with their training mode, where they teach you, besides the moves that each character has, the subtleties of the complex fighting system, which Tekken 4's training modes fail to do.
Tekken 4 drops back to supporting only 2 players, whereas there are games like Barbarian out there that neatly enable four-player brawling (with even the extra chaos of four more AI characters if you can stand it).

Tekken 4 is the latest in the worldwide known fighting series from Namco where the player has to beat all opponents to win the title of King of Iron Fist and on the way defeat the forces of evil.
When Sony’s PS2 was released, Tekken Tag Tournament was released but unlike what most people thought, that game was not the successor to Tekken 3 which had been a major hit on the PSX.
Tekken 4 has improved a lot in features compared to the previous games in the series, but most of those are things that other fighting games have had for years already.

Tekken 4 really isn't much different from Tekken Tag Tournament before it, which itself was very similar to 1997's Tekken 3.
Most notably, Tekken 4 is the first game in the series to take place in closed arenas of different shapes and sizes.
But that's not the fault of Tekken 4 so much as it's the fault of the fighting game genre, in general and even if you do love fighting games, and the Tekken series in particular, you'll still probably agree that the series is past its prime with Tekken 4.
