Telarc's recording quality, which is as good as it gets, is clearly evident in the CD, with which I have no caveats.
On this Telarc release, as usual, the flute is a bit bigger than life, but the excellent sound quality might tip the balance.
The full, rich sound quality—particularly for a recording of a group of period instrument players—is impressive, though it is a bit bright in louder passages and lacks some clarity in the midrange and deep bass.

I have long been a fan of Telarc’s recording philosophy (essentially the same as the Mercury “Living Presence” approach, two microphones placed in a perfect spot and no accent mikes).
I have some of their Direct to Disk LPs before they became exclusively digital, but their first Digital LPs were a level down from their D2D recordings and showcased the shallow, edgy string sound that so damages many early digital recordings.
Telarc are preparing to release a SACD 2 channel re-issue of this work which should be extremely good indeed.

 HTGuide Forum - Telarc question
Telarc has two performances by different groups with different performing styles in their catalog.
One example is a Telarc release of a guitar ensemble where the main players were positined at the four corners of the hall, and so they come at you from the four corners of your room.
Not so with multichannel SACD (at least as rendered on the Telarc releases) where the orchestra is still arrayed all across the front when you move to the left (or the right, for that matter).

Telarc has gone back to their vaults to release three Hybrid Stereo Super Audio CDs.
Telarc describes the process by noting that these SACDs were "produced from the original Soundstream masters using the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) recording process.
Telarc also notes that "To produce the original compact disc, the Soundstream signal had to be converted from 50kHz to 44.1kHz, a process that inherently causes a loss of quality - not only by lowering the frequency response but also by the complex mathematical process needed to derive 44.1kHz from 50kHz.

Various Artists: Telarc Jazz -- Celebrating 25 Years - PopMatters Music Review
It was all rather well heeled and respectable and was thought by jazz buffs to be a little too timid and genteel, but when it disappeared there was a sudden realisation that much good music would no longer get an airing.
Fortunately, Telarc is in robust shape, and today's jazz fans are less likely to cast aside a good thing when they hear it.
The "25 years" is slightly misleading -- Telarc was a classical outfit for the first decade of its existence.

The disc features all new recordings of every component that was on the original recording (music, cannons and bells), but has the addition of the Kiev Symphony Chorus with their authentic Russian sound, a children’s chorus and the optional brass band for more musical punch in the finale.
Telarc hired the same cannoneers as for the 1978 recording, but this time recorded them in a larger "battlefield setting." The cannons could now be placed more accurately in the overall soundstage, as could all of the musical components - especially in the surround version!
The cannons of the Telarc Digital "1812" are recorded at a very high level.

CD Review of Saxophone Summit - Gathering of Spirits on Telarc @ jazzreview.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
For one thing, it involves the gathering of some of the leading saxophonists of their generation for a loosely structured exchange as Lovano and Brecker received permission from their labels for the collaboration, without which we would have been significantly the poorer.
And then the gathering of spirits concludes with the freest and least structured track of all, the saxophonists’ overtones and assertions resolving into a melody of definite Coltrane influence, as it is repeated in steps before the resulting rousing three-part harmony leads into concomitant improvisations, connected harmonically though stating simultaneous by varying lines of thought.
Kudos to Telarc for releasing a superb, influential and memorable recording that synergistically transcends the tools of music, notes and rhythm, as the musicians were transported beyond mere melody and harmony into shared spiritual fulfillment that few recordings offer.
