Telebit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telebit was a US-based modem manufacturer, most notable for their TrailBlazer series of high-speed modems.
Telebit was originally founded by Paul Baran, one of the inventors of the packet switching networking concept.
Telebit first offered V.32 support in the T2500, which used the Trailblazer/T2000 hardware with the addition of the Rockwell V.32 modem module.

A Brief History of Telebit   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Telebit was originally founded by Paul Baran, the inventor of packet switching, to make high-speed modems.
However, Telebit was somewhat taken by surprise by V.34 (28800 bps), and did not have a product in development soon enough to satisfy the market demand.
On October 25, 1996, Telebit Corporation was acquired by Cisco Systems, Inc., although they sold part of it back to the Telebit Corporation executive staff to form a new privately held corporation named Telebit Incorporated.

In version 3.2 of Microsoft Mail Remote for Windows or version 2.1, 3.0, 3.0a, or 3.2 of Microsoft Mail for PC Networks, when you transmit a large amount of data using a Telebit modem with the Telebit script connecting at 9600 baud, throughput is well below that speed.
Upon connection, both modems echo "CONNECT FAST," show that the 1024x8 parameters are in use on both sides, and that the bytes received and transmitted are incremented in 1024 byte blocks.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the Telebit Trailblazer modem using all versions of the Telebit script.

What special considerations are there regarding my Telebit mode
If you are using Telebit UUCP spoofing (S111=30), the modem spoofing firmware will only negotiate a 3-window connection, so changing the window size to 7 will not do anything for spoofed connections.
Some people have reported problems with Telebit modems and UUCP-g spoofing when they change their window and/or packet sizes.
Apparently, Telebits can handle requests for increased window sizes without error (though they will only use a maximum window size of 3), but will not work correctly with large packets (probably above the SCO default of 64 bytes).

USR was not the only company making proprietary high-speed modems; Telebit's TrailBlazer series offered speeds up to 19.2 kbit/s even in its first model, and Hayes eventually responded to USR and TeleBit by introducing their own 9600 bit/s Express 96 (or "Ping-Pong") system.
In contrast, TeleBit became very popular in the Unix world through their ability to "spoof" the UUCP protocol to greatly improve transfers, while the Hayes system never became popular.

Ericsson Telebit was the first company in the world to introduce a commercial router that can operate on the basis of the IPv6 protocol.

Webmaster Peter Binderup had already experienced the speed and stabilty of MySQL when working for a major Internet Service Provider, and the easy installation as well as easy portability across platforms were important factors in the choice.
