  Telecom Éireann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telecom Éireann, or formally Bord Telecom Éireann - The Irish Telecommunications Board, was created by the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983 from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, Ireland, under the leadership of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs.
Telecom Éireann introduced a Minitel system into Ireland in 1992 but this was largely a failure.
Telecom Éireann become Eircom in 1999 after being privatized, and was later it split into Eircell, the mobile networks business, and Eircom, the fixed-line business.

If Telecom Éireann grants options to its executives, does not perform well and is then taken over as it is vulnerable to take-over when its performance is not good, the people who benefit most will be the executives who have not performed very well as the share price increases in the event of a take-over.
I listened to the executives of Telecom Éireann talking about the distribution of shares and how the workers were entitled to them as they had built up the company, given it its strength and made it so valuable.

     Within moments of their opening, Telecom Eireann shares in Dublin were quoted at 4.7 euros, 21 percent above the 3.90 euro ($4) initial price set by the Irish government Wednesday in the run-up to the country's largest privatization ever.
     The company's early fortunes appeared to vindicate analysts' high hopes for the telecom firm as it embarks on a privatization under which the Irish government is selling its 50.1 stake.
     The launch couldn't have come at a more felicitous moment for Telecom Eireann, at a time when the Irish economy is in ascendance and the hunger for communications issues seems to grow by the day.
