Telepathy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telepathy (from the Greek τηλε, tele, "distant"; and πάθεια, patheia, "feeling") is the claimed ability of humans and other creatures to communicate information from one mind to another, without the use of extra tools such as speech or body language.
Considered a form of extra-sensory perception or anomalous cognition, telepathy is often connected to various paranormal phenomena such as precognition, clairvoyance and empathy.
Western scientific investigation of telepathy is generally recognized as having begun with the initial program or research of the Society for Psychical Research.

 Telepathy - LoveToKnow 1911
Although the word "telepathy" was first suggested by F. Myers in 1882, the suggestion had long before been made that the transmission of ideas, images and sensations could be brought about by other than the normally operative motor and sensory apparatus of the body.
More than one writer had explained wraiths at the moment of death, clairvoyance and the phenomena of spiritualism by the theory of "brain waves." But it was not until the advent of the Society for Psychical Research that the hypothesis attracted much notice or was backed by carefully collected evidence.
Telepathy is often invoked as an explanation of the facts of mediumship (see Medium, and Possession); but it seems insufficient to explain them unless we assume for the medium a far greater power of reading other people's minds than experimental evidence has so far shown to exist.

 Telepathy - Crystalinks
Telepathy is direct transference of thought from one person (sender or agent) to another (receiver or percipient) without using the usual sensory channels of communication, hence a form of extrasensory perception (ESP).
Telepathy proponents point generally to controversially scientific concepts such as psychology and quantum mechanics, as areas of research that are considered to be deeply based in the scientific method, but have equally problematic and unexplainable links to the exclusively physical description of reality.
In essence, proponents claim that telepathy is not "extrasensory", rather that the brain is the telepathic organ, its connections to other brains are not physical, but psychic, and the very definition of the psychic medium is the localized inertial frame of reference which is affected by the mind.

Telepathy occurs if signals ‘interrupt’ one another, but the hypothesis was very weak in his attempt to account for the lack of attenuation in signals (as he was considering a physical space but it has been established that physical distance has no bearing on the phenomena).
No attempt was made to explain how the ‘interruption’ leading to telepathy occurs, given that the theory is based upon individuals and their own ‘mind-space’, rather than a universal one which is shared as in most other hypotheses.

Some refuse to admit even the possibility of telepathy, while more reasonable sceptics prefer to suspend judgment until there is not only unmistakable evidence for it and a theory explaining how it works.
In 'Twin Telepathy: The Psychic Connection', Guy Lyon Playfair has produced an overwhelming body of evidence indicating that there is indeed a special connection between twins.

 Mental Telepathy
Mental telepathy is defined as "Communication through means other than the senses, or thought transference." This is a rather dry way of putting it, but is an accurate definition nonetheless.
Anecdotal evidence of telepathy is really quite overwhelming, even if we can't come up with a repeatable scientific test to confirm it.
As human beings, we are interconnected in ways that we don't fully understand, and therefore, it stands to reason that telepathy is as natural as breathing, but is for the most part stifled in our modern world with all it's distractions.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Telepathy
The term telepathy is sometimes used, in conformity with its derivation, to mean the direct communication between minds at a great distance.
After considering the cumulative evidence for the existence of telepathy, there cannot fail to remain in the mind at least a general impression that chance does not account for the number of coincidences, which is far greater than could be expected according to chance-probability.
In the "Census of Hallucinations", after due allowance for possible causes of error, whereas ordinary chance coincidence would give 1:19,000 as the proportion of the coincidences of apparitions with the fact of death, the actual proportion is 1:43, or 440 times greater than would be expected.

The conception of telepathy as a direct process had the advantage of two things: (1) the fact that the coincidences were not evidence of the identity of the dead; and (2) that the phenomena conformed to the law of stimulus, as possibly indicated in the dynamic influence of one mind on another.
All this shows that telepathy is not only nothing but a name for certain facts requiring to be explained, but also that we have only a negative conception with which to deal.
Telepathy represents what we do not know in terms of a process, and hence is worthless for scientific explanations.
