Apparatus for controlling the electron beam in a television camera tube - Patent 4716468
A camera tube device for use in, for example, a television camera comprises a cathode emitting electrons, and a first grid and a second grid having respective apertures for converging the electrons emitted from the cathode into a fine electron beam.
In a vidicon type television camera tube, a charge pattern corresponding to the luminous intensity of a moving object is produced on a photoconductive layer target, and an electron beam generated from an electron gun is directed to scan the photoconductive layer target, thereby to cause successive discharge of the charge pattern.
1, the television camera tube device includes a cathode 1, a heater 4, a first grid 2, a second grid 3, a third grid 5, a fourth grid 6 having a mesh electrode, and a photoconductive layer target 7, all of which are disposed inside a vacuum envelope 8.

television. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
Television has become a major industry, especially in the industrialized nations, and a major medium of communication and source of home entertainment.
Television is put to varied use in industry, e.g., for surveillance in places inaccessible to or dangerous for human beings; in science, e.g., in tissue microscopy (see microscope); and in education.
When a television program is broadcast, the varying electrical signals are then amplified and used to modulate a carrier wave (see modulation); the modulated carrier is usually fed to an antenna, where it is converted to electromagnetic waves and broadcast over a large region.

 Television
In the television receiver, another electron beam–or set of electron beams, in the case of color television–uses the signals recorded by the camera to reproduce the original image on the receiver's screen.
Television signals may, however, be sent clearly from almost any point on earth to any other–and from spacecraft to earth–by means of cables, microwave relay stations, and communications satellites.
Later, however, the growth of color television was delayed because it had to be compatible with monochrome–that is, color television would have to use the same channels as monochrome television and be receivable in fl and white on monochrome sets.
